Anyone else seen this?

In one of the most bizarre casting calls in years, comes MGM's decision to cast Jim Carrey, Sean Penn and Benicio Del Toro as the Three Stooges that is set to be written and directed by The Farrelly Brothers, Bobby and Peter. There is a rumor that Carrey has said that he will be gaining 40 pounds to play the role of Curly, Penn is set to play Larry and Benicio Tel Toro to play Moe.

I think I read somewhere else that Penn has had to pull out, so I'd like to see Carrey as Larry, del Toro as Moe, and Michael Chiklis as Curly.

Any thoughts?

This new production is a bit odd. This isn't a biopic, right? They're just doing a new Three Stooges movie with new actors.

Does anyone KNOW this one way or the other?

Because a biopic would be 100% awesome whereas a remake would be about 2% awesome.

Big difference.

The 2000 TV movie was good, but they leaped over several years at a time. If memory serves, we saw Shemp just rejoining the stooges, cut to commercial, we come back to Shemp's funeral.

Um...

I'd move to see a more fleshed out biopic.

Yeah, the script of the 2000 version is really choppy, but the performances are good and it's very affectionate - it's almost a throwback to the old studio biopics of the 1930s and 1940s, in which the subject's life was often "improved" considerably by the writers.

SInce the 2000 movie was a biopic and the Farelly Brothers aren't known for straight-faced movies, like biopics, I think a "remake" is far more likely.
