Three New Designs Inspired by Monthly Contest.

With another monthly contest that allowed me to use my skills in starship design, I knew I wanted to try developing something. So I came up with three.

The first sketches I did was based on the Y-Wing from Star Wars, an obvious choice due to it's engine pods. The story behind this one is that it is supposed to be an early 24th century attack fighter that is a predecessor to the Peregrine. My intention was to have the nacelles have a resemblance to that of the Ambassador and Korolev class, due to being a contemporary.

I also tried to work out details behind the missile launchers, which are akin to missile cannons of some sort, and I guess could be considered a prelude to the micro-torpedo launchers of much later on.

The second pair of sketches I made was for a fighter based on the Naboo N-1, also because of it's pod-like engines. The story behind this is that she is from a hypothetical separate continuity where the Federation, and most of the Alpha and Beta Quadrants got caught up or involved in the events of the Star Wars Galaxy about 30 or 40 years before TBY when a rift between the two galaxies was discovered. Over time, Naboo would have conceivably become one of the Federation's allies, and this probably wouldn't be the first fighter based on the N-1's configuration. This fighter would have been rolled out beginning in the early years of the 25th Century.

I had also started on some dorsal/ventral views, though this could be considered a test sketch or WIP, or something.

The final design is based on the Interceptor from the new Green Lantern series, which looks an awful lot that it would fit in very well as a Starfleet vessel with enough necessary changes.

To be honest, If not for the fact that I have class to focus on, I might have been posting more than just sketches. That and I'm just not efficient enough with my time. When I started on these earlier this month, I thought I might have time to make more developed sketches, and perhaps more. I blame the my hard drive crashing for not having enough time to develop these a little further. Still, that said, if any of you think that any of these are good enough to enter into this months contest, then I probably will.

Cool sketches! I saw you got some inspiration from Star Wars in both ships. :) The second one could be resized, and a few details added, to turn her in the romulan pigeon of death. :techman:

I'm guessing you meant the third one, the shuttle, and not the fighter (the second one).

A Romulan Pigeon of Death ; I couldn't help but chuckle at the name, since pigeons are usually harmless, though try telling that to a Pidgeot. :S Given my tendency to try to heed people's suggestions, I'll probably end up remaking this as a bigger Romulan vessel the next time I get bored and decide to start sketching, assuming I remember. It will still likely be one of the last designs that will get realized in Illustrator or 3D (when I get to that).

I'm guessing that when you say resize, I'm picturing a vessel below the size of a cruiser, like a frigate or destroyer, right?

The Naboo Starfighter is the one thing I unreservedly adore from the PT... such a beautiful ship.

Nice work!

I like the lines of the second one, with the addition of a tail. :D Therefore, of course that details from the third one could be integrated in the final design too.

I know pigeons are harmless, but the word is a reference to the small size when compared to a cruiser. You´re right, a frigate or a cruiser. "Small and with a gracefull body like a pigeon, but dangerous and armed as a haast´s eagle" , would say the feds, resulting in a nick like "Pigeon of Death" :)

The starship´s logo: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3027/2607643521_eccd3391db.jpg (of course, could be changed a little to reflect some romulan bird).

Excuse me if I´m devianting to much. ;)

Funny that you should say that, since I was thinking of giving her more of a fan-tail, than a straight tail.
