Thoughts on some SPOILERs from ID

Anduril

Nose down. Throttle up.
Captain
Doesn't anyone else think it's funny that because of all the hoopla surrounding Cumberbatch's character that they were able to sneak in Spock Prime and kill Kirk without any word getting out about those two major points?

Actually, many assumed there was a good chance Spock Prime would be in it. Thanks to some tweets and him being spotted on set at some point if I remember correctly.
As for Kirk's kill, people have speculated about it happening ever since the first trailer with the hands on glass scene appeared.

Maybe it was just me then. I never saw the Tweets you mentioned.

As far as
Kirk's death goes,
I believe I had that. ;)

And yes, Nimoy visited the set early in shooting (I think it was early). There was also some report that he was seen wearing a Vulcan-like robe. I think the latter was dismissed as rumor or largely forgotten because there were no follow-ups. I think most of us didn't give much thought to him having a part in STID after passing the torch in ST09. Especially since Nimoy had seemed to hate the idea of doing only a "come out and wave at the folks" cameo as much as Shatner did. Seems he changed his mind.

If it makes you happy to think you're not alone, I didn't think Cumberbatch was going to be Khan, I never even considered that Kirk would die, and didn't think we'd be lucky enough to see Nimoy on screen again.
I also thought it was going to be Pike dying in the reaction chamber - somehow thought it would be fitting considering he was severely damaged by radiation in TOS.

My only redemption was that I didn't ever think it was the Enterprise crashing into the buildings from the trailer. I knew it had to be another ship.

But overall Abrams you defeated my speculation again.

The film was nothing like what I had pieced together in my head from the trailers. There's actually another thread complaining about that, but I was thrilled to see so much unexpected stuff!
