Thoughts On Lt. Kelowitz

Spock's Barber

Rear Admiral
Rear Admiral
I always enjoyed the character of Lt. Kelowitz, played by Grant Woods, in several 1st season episodes. I would have liked to seen him become a regular crewmember. Until the information superhighway came into existence, I always wondered why he just disappeared from further episodes. Memory Alpha states that he died in a motorcycle accident on October 31, 1968. RIP, Mr. Woods.

His second and third appearances were actually scripted for different characters, but were changed to Kelowitz when he was cast. Search the board -- his niece has posted a couple times over the years.

Thank you for the info, Sir Rhosis. I've sent a bottle of Saurian Brandy your way, shipped by Federation Ex.

Geez, 36 ...so young, so tragic.

Amazingly, Morgan Woodward is still around at age 90 remarkably.

Good genes apparently.

He had the patina of someone that was quietly but unquestionably proficient in his role. At the same time, he possessed a quality that one could almost define as friendliness, a trait that wasn't built into other characters who appeared multiple times, admittedly a small pool, with the same function. It was a shame that he didn't get more dialogue as I think he could have portrayed a really engaging member of the crew.
