Thoughts on Bashir X Kira

One possible romance that isn't discussed much, could Bashir and Kira have had a chance at love???

well, i dont think the writers would have found it a good idea since they were married in RL.

Eh? what?

I call myself a fan and i never knew this.

damn it's funny because i thought they had on screen chemistry.

I see Siddig likes the slightly older women, he hooked up with kim kattral too

Yeah, if you go to Memory Alpha, the writers say that the above scene - "This is your fault!" (Bashir to Kira) was deliberately written, tongue-in-cheek, to acknowledge the two actors having a baby together. I remember seeing Visitor and Siddig on ET back in the day when they were doing a segment on co-star romances. I believe they're divorced now though. :(

No.

The fact that the actors got married in real life is absolutely irrelevant. I could never see their characters as a couple. (In "Fascination", it was played for laughs and was just absurd.) As friends, they had nice scenes together, but any romantic relationship would be extremely unconvincing. They have very little in common, there's very little about Bashir's personality that could appeal to Kira in a romantic sense, he's probably the last guy in the show I could see her falling for. (Well, maybe after Weyoun. Or Rom. Or Quark.) As for Bashir, not only has he always lusted after Dax, but he's also probably a little scared of Kira - remember that he saw her as the embodiment his aggressive side in "Distant Voices"?

I agree with the above. I liked that they developed a friendship as the seasons progressed, but I never, ever wanted to them to get romantical. Plus, it's seems to me it's always a bad idea to put characters together on a show if the actors are involved in real life. Something bad always happens.

It could have happened, but it didn't. They hardly had any scenes together...to me it's kind of like Jadzia and Leeta, they never had any sort of friendship but when Jadzia had her zhian'tara it seemed like they were close friends. Then they never had any other scenes together. Kira and Julian could have made a couple in my opinion but it's hard when the two characters hardly ever speak to one another. I thought of writing a semi-romantic fanfic blurb about them but it turned into just friendship and I think I'll leave it at that...but I'm not sure. I'm always the guy rooting for the couples that never happen...like Trip and Hoshi or Sam Carter and Daniel Jackson...anyhow, they made good friends in the few scenes they had.

yea, that was news when they were filming, that Alex and Nana Visitor were an item. Married during the series I think.

Like others, I can't see why they couldn't have had on screen romance even if they are a couple in real life. It would not have been the first time that couples have acted together and had on screen thing together. At the end of the day we may have to accept the fact that the writers could not develop a story.

I remember being surprised when I herd they were a couple. It's a shame things didn't work out between them in real life. As for Kira and Bashir, I am glad they never had a romance between them on the show.

its kinda like imagining Damar and B'Elanna Torres having a relationship too. At least Casey and Roxanne weren't on the same show.

The could have had a meaningless fling for a few episodes. It sometimes happens with work colleagues. It might have been fun to watch it go disastrously wrong before they came to their senses...

Kira and Bashir were two different people. She grew up hard fighting as a terrorist against Cardassian oppression. The only sense of normalhood she had was on DS9 after Sisko came. Bashir had a normal childhood with two parents. He lived without the fear of danger and oppression. He played tennis and had an graduate education. Besides, I don't think she would find him appealing after he compared her world to a wild frontier (think Afghanistan). Cobra

P.S... Bashir connected better with women like Sarina, Ezri, and Leeta. Jadzia was a crush but would have never worked. She was picky about her men and liked hanging out with the Kilingons. Ezri on the other hand was repulsed by Klingon culture and especially food.

To the above, you forget Bashir had plenty of angst with carrying the secret of his genetic engineering and believing his parents did it to him because they were ashamed. His life wasn't all rainbows and sunshine. True, it could never compare to the difficulties of Kira's childhood, but there are plenty of other reason why they are incompatible. I enjoyed that they developed a friendship as the series progressed, but never wanted them to get romantical.

TV writers have an overdeveloped tendency, as a series progresses, to create and then deconstruct every possible romantic pairing, not to mention quite a few quite unlikely romantic pairings, and you know something? I just get sick of it. The pairing proposed by the OP literally never occurred to me, and I think the reason was that it just was not (at least to me) the least bit likely or compelling or dramatically necessary or anything. None of which wouldn't necessarily hold the writers back, mind you. (I mean, Yar and Data? Crusher and Riker-when-he-was-possessed-by-that-Trill-whose-name-I'm-too-lazy-to-look-up? Please)...but I'm really glad it apparently did so here. The friendship was interesting in and of itself. I'm so glad they left it at that.

Good point! I guess I should not have skipped that episode when his parents stopped by. I still feel that growing up in the Federation vs. Occupied Bajor have no comparisons. I just felt that their characters could be real good friends but not lovers. Cobra

I feel exactly the same way. And what's nice is that their characters did become good friends, after a time.
