Thoughts about Trill sexuality

Seems like they'd have higher incidences of bisexuality than other species -- joined trill, anyway. Our memories make us us, and if they've got memories of being attracted to both males and females...

One would also think that the slugs inside would gradually get interested in more and more "variety", having lived through so many things already. As long as it doesn't kill the slug...

One wonders if Trill romance is in any way connected to Trill reproduction. I mean, the hosts probably reproduce the usual way, even if infested with the slugs. But can an already "installed" slug ever reproduce? Or is that a job for the free-swimmers in the milk caves?

Depends - in Rejoined, Dax's pull on Jadzia was toward something Dax had experienced before, as it were (something seen in other areas too - Blood Oath being an early example. Ezri had it too - although she was more inclined to fight that pull than Jadzia was, it still made her run after the captured Worf).

Probably depends on the symbiont, to a large extent.

Can't "installed slugs" be returned to the caves between hosts, provided it can be planned for (as opposed to cases like Jadzia's death, with a host dying a long way from the Trill homeworld).

I don't see that two symbionts could properly reproduce within hosts though without major external intervention. What would it take - passing gametes through hosts urine for external fertilisation?

Unless sexuality is more about brain chemistry and hormones than experiences, in which case it's governed by the body, not the mind. Personally, I suspect this is the case.

We really have to ponder whether the choice lies elsewhere altogether. Maybe the host's mind and body have no say in it, and the slugs are in total control - and forcing the hosts to smile and say shallow things about a "comfortable and mutually beneficial relationship"?

This, too, may be something that depends on the characteristics of the individual symbiont. But tyrannical slug individuals can easily take total control, because apparently the host in the normal case cannot survive the removal of the slug and thus can never get free and tell the dreadful truth of his or her enslavement. (And even if removal in the general case is possible, these less-than-nice slugs can almost certainly throw a few cogs in those wheels...)

Despite the prospect of her being an accomplished wrestler and no doubt interested in doing unconventional things with men? (Or because of it?)
