THOR-starts shooting Jan2010: Updates, Rumors & Casting till release

Re: THOR-starts shooting Jan2010: Updates, Rumors & Casting till relea

what i noticed was Thor is Thor and Loki is Loki, yet Odin is 'Marvel's Odin'. WTF?

IF you look at Loki and Thor, they have (eg) Battle Strike Loki or Hammer Strike Thor written on them, according to which model they are. Presumably Marvel's Odin is the bog-standard version of the character.

The Super Bowl spot had a few new image sequences. Hopefully it'll be online soon.

Probably has to do with trademarks. The only thing is, I can't think of who else might've trademarked "Odin" and is using a version of the Norse deity in anything at the moment, necessitating the spelling out that it's "Marvel's Odin."

While I liked the Captain America spot i was really blown away by the Thor one. That looks like a very cool movie and I've never really cared for the character. He always bored me.

I don't get how they're supposed to get Joe Six Pack interested because so far there doesn't seem to be much in the ads. They're sort of preaching to the choir but I just can't see the average person saying "Damn, I need to check that out.".

Maybe I'm just projecting though as I've found everything they've shown so far to be really pedestrian.

I agree that the Thor spot was more impressive, but then perhaps Cap is still going through post-production? Both were promising, though.

How was the "Thor" spot more impressive than "Captain America"? It was essentially a short version of the trailer we got from two months ago. I thought it was meh. Still am looking forward to the movie though.

Hmm, I found the CA spot much more exciting, mainly because much of the Thor one had already been seen. Both looked great though.

Put yourself in the position of someone who is not a geek following these things closely, i.e. you are just sitting there on the couch, having probably not seen the Thor trailer already. From that point of view, I thought the Thor spot was more impressive and worked better as teaser. But whatever. The Cap one was good, too, so yeah :techman:

Re: THOR-starts shooting Jan2010: Updates, Rumors & Casting till relea

We all know THOR opens the summer but what I noticed new in the Fast 5 spot vs the trailer they released back in December was the tagline "Summer Starts Here". Seems Universal is trying to unofficially usurp THOR.
I think Fast 5 has an audience that'll turn out for a $50+m opener but THOR starts summer. Should perhaps Marvel do something to counter program that out of people in some of their next wave of marketing?

Re: THOR-starts shooting Jan2010: Updates, Rumors & Casting till relea

^"Fast 5" opens the week prior, right, at the end of April? That doesn't strike me as much of threat to Thor's opening the following weekend in early May, more like an appetizer. But I shall leave it to the marketing gurus to sort it out ;)

Re: THOR-starts shooting Jan2010: Updates, Rumors & Casting till relea

I was sitting with non geeks when the "Thor" spot came on...most of them were underwhelmed but it and thought "Captain America" was much more exciting looking.

Re: THOR-starts shooting Jan2010: Updates, Rumors & Casting till relea

Captain America looks good. Thor looks about as divorced from anything human beings can reasonably be expected to give a damn about as...well, as Green Lantern (despite my own love for GL).

Re: THOR-starts shooting Jan2010: Updates, Rumors & Casting till relea

Thor and Fast Five both open April 29 in the UK.

yeah, we get Thor a week before you, suck it!!!

Re: THOR-starts shooting Jan2010: Updates, Rumors & Casting till relea

That doesn't surprise me. I probably won't be able to see it opening weekend in the first place.

Re: THOR-starts shooting Jan2010: Updates, Rumors & Casting till relea

Looks good (though they probably put in a few too many bits with Jane's sidekick).

Re: THOR-starts shooting Jan2010: Updates, Rumors & Casting till relea

I think it looks far worse than the other trailers. Way too much shoddy special effects and an unnecessarily sizable amount of questionable humor for a supposedly grandiose superhero epic.

Re: THOR-starts shooting Jan2010: Updates, Rumors & Casting till relea

Still doesn't beat out Green Lantern for the worst superhero trailer of 2011 though. :)
