THOR-starts shooting Jan2010: Updates, Rumors & Casting till release

Re: THOR-starts shooting Jan2010: Updates, Rumors & Casting till relea

Final decisions seem to be in the process of being made concerning Thor. Director Kenneth Branagh says to expect an announcement soon. Now what soon means in Hollywood speak could mean by the end of the month or end of the summer season. I hope its the former.
Thor director Kenneth Branagh dropped by the MTV studios and was asked about the casting of the title role.
"We're down to the final stages of it," Branagh said. "The reason one has to be properly diplomatic, is simply that some talented peopled have been patient, kind, creative and really committed to working with us in this process."
He added that "My reluctance to say anything about it is simply out of respect for people who have been extremely respectful of us. That said, I think we are extremely close and I hope to announce a decision sooner rather than later."

With Iron Man 2 filming I am eager to see the next piece in this Cinematic Marvel Universe unfold with Thor.

You'd prefer maybe Nicholas Cage?!?

:wtf:

Um. No.

But, i would prefer someone who could act.

Just because Triple H "looks" like Thor in his daily life doesn't mean he's the least bit right for the role, or to lead a movie that will cost millions and millions of dollars.

Given the way Hollywood works, I'll feel fortunate if it isn't Keanu or Will Ferrell...

Zoom is right here.
I give you very recent Exhibit A: Sabretooth
Did they ask back Tyler Mane? No, they got someone with some acting chops and that'll be needed for Thor as well. Frankly any main character which is why Mane was ok in X1, cause it was a bit part.

Re: THOR-starts shooting Jan2010: Updates, Rumors & Casting till relea

I love that they got somebody with the surname "Mane" to play Sabretooth.

Maybe The Expendables can respark interest in Dolph Lundgren! :p

Re: THOR-starts shooting Jan2010: Updates, Rumors & Casting till relea

I like Kevin McKidd a lot, but I wonder if he's imposing enough. Height isn't the issue, because few people are that big. It's about being imposing and intimidating. Which I think he can do, judging by Rome.

The dude from Tru Blood looks the part. And he's a decent enough actor from what I've seen I guess. He'd need to bulk up though.

Triple H looks the part, but he's got the charisma of a dead rat. And that's just in the ring.

I hope they give him a beard. All Vikings should have beards. The one redeemable thing about The Ultimates was that they gave him a beard. Beardless Thor is too pretty looking for my tastes. No Viking should look like a GQ model IMO.

Re: THOR-starts shooting Jan2010: Updates, Rumors & Casting till relea

^ Heh. I remember the first animated Ultimates movie, where they actually went with the beardless Thor:

Pym: "Who's that?"
Stark: "I don't know, but I'm glad she's on our side."

Fictitiously yours, Trent Roman

Does anyone know, is Dr. Blake part of the Thor movie?

My vote for Thor - Daniel Craig. Put glasses on him, he's bookish and learned. Take off his shirt, he's the Thunder God. I know he's older than they're aiming with this movie... but I'd say, work the character's age around the right actor, not the actor around the supposed age.

Daniel Craig already turned it down so I hear. Besides, Daniel Craig is like tiny. He's like 5'5.

Deadline Hollywood is reporting that Chris Hemsworth has been cast as Thor.

Awesome if true. Deadline Hollywood is farily accurate but I'll still await the formal announcement.

Be interesting if two generations of onscreen Kirk go into separate leading comic roles. What with Chris Pine still on the short list for Green Lantern.

Re: THOR-starts shooting Jan2010: Updates, Rumors & Casting till relea

So does that mean he won't be playing Sam Kirk in the Trek sequel? :p

Hey, good for him!!!!

He was great in the short part that he had in Trek.

I wonder if that pushed him over the finish line in getting cast!

Re: THOR-starts shooting Jan2010: Updates, Rumors & Casting till relea

I was in the Skaaragard camp but I'm happy with this announcement. I thought Hemsworth did a great job in a short but significant role in ST - much like Linus Roache did in Batman Begins, but with even less screen time. Nice to see him making the jump from supporting role to lead actor in another high profile gig.

Perhaps they'll cast Shatner as Odin now! :p

Huh, seeing how Branaugh cast himself as Iago in his take on Othello and himself as Hamlet in his take on Hamlet I was hoping he'd cast himself as Loki...

He's too old to be Loki now. Would've been perfect 15 years ago.
