Thor: Ragnarok

From the spoilers I've read, the film should take a very dark turn somewhere in the middle. Unconfirmed, but the darker the better for every film running up to Infinity War, and the predicted end of most of Marvel's phase one leads..

Thor: "Loki! Look who it is!"

Loki: "I have to get off this planet!"

NO TEAM, ONLY HULK!:guffaw:
I love that we're getting a more vocal Hulk this time. I wonder if this characterization for him will continue on into Infinity War and any other future appearances, or if he'll go back to being less talkative?

So early Thor 3 reviews are calling it great...

Sadly, even though she was at the premiere, there's no interview with Cate Blanchett.

Sounds like everyone had a lot of fun on set and I hope that sense of fun translates well into the film. Certainly looks like that's the case in the trailers.

I know it won't happen, but I really hope they include that 25-minute extemporization set that Jeff Goldblum performed during a take. Sounds amazing.

Apologies for the double post, but the board won't let me post more than five videos at a time. Here's one more interview from the premiere:

I am super pumped for this. It was the first film of the Fall season I had to bargain with my wife to see.
However, since our first child was born 4 weeks early and will now be 11 weeks old vs about 5/6 getting out to see this will be easier. We may use it as a good test bed for our first "date night" post baby cause she also really enjoys the Marvel films. Paging one of the grandmas!!

One bad review already.

"While it's not saying much, "Thor: Ragnarok" is easily the best of the three Thor movies - or maybe I just think so because its screenwriters and I finally seem to agree on one thing: The Thor movies are preposterous."

Calling it "preposterous" doesn't necessarily indicate dislike. Most superhero movies are preposterous and I like most of them.

Dislikes Thor movies, at the very least.
Yeah, the 'genius teenager who climbs up walls with his bare hands', the 'PTSD alcoholic billionaire in a weaponised suit' and the 'hundred year old skydiving war veteran dressed in an american flag' movies are *way* more sensible than the 'flying underwear model who shoots lighting out of his hammer' movies.

It tries, but it really doesn't.

Regardless of this, Ragnarok is a joy of a film. More akin to GOTG and Ant Man than previous Thor films.

The comparison to GoTG is most apt though. Not because it's colourful and fun, but rather the idiosyncratic stylings of its directors shine through and elevate the standard hum-drum Marvel plotting.

Like Gunn before him, Waititi shows such confidence in upping his game to Tent-pole level film making that frankly he should be allowed to make any film he wants to next. All of his trademark quirkiness, humour and heart seep through this film so, whilst clearly and obviously identifiable as a Marvel product, it has enough Waititi off-the-wall-ness (compounded by Goldblum being the most wonderfully Goldblumy he's been since Jurassic Park) to mask the barely there story and somehow elevate it to joydom.

It's incredibly silly, snortingly funny, with some fun action, glorious set/costume design, an 80's synth undercurrent to the score, and some genuinely beautiful painterly imagery. It's also, as a waiter once said, "Waffer theen".

But that doesn't hold it back from being the best Thor film and the most fun film Marvel has made without a talking tree.

Hugo - God of Hammers

I read that before going in. If that was part of her character design (in the script), a director's notion, or her own addition to the material, it really doesn't show in the slightest.

She's a feisty, fun, engaging (and pretty damned sexy imo) addition to the Thor cast, but if the character is bisexual it has as much resonance and depth on screen as Dumbledore being gay. But then it's a pretty sexless adventure all round really (barring some Thor-skin-time and Thompson/Blanchett's inherent sexiness)

As Thompson says in her tweet, the character's sexuality isn't addressed or even implied, which is not a surprise given Kevin Feige appears to be uninterested in much general diversity of his box-office friendly pantheon.

Hugo -
