THOR And PIRATES 4 Take Advantage Of SPIDER-MAN 4 delay

Yoink! And just like that, THOR and PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN 4 took advantage of SPIDER-MAN 4 being put on hold due to script problem. The other day, Sony said that the release date May 5th, 2011 for our friendly neighborhood’s fourth installment has become unlikely and so the man with the mighty hammer took the slot. Marvel Studios and Paramount has moved THOR from May 20th to two weeks earlier than scheduled, May 6th, 2011…

Disney and Jerry Bruckheimer Films didn’t wanna be left out of the competition, Jack Sparrow’s fourth adventure PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: ON STRANGERS TIDE which was previously set for just summer 2011 noticed that THOR has left and it now occupies May 20th, 2011

This is awesome. Both Thor and Pirates early. I really hope Sony ends up delaying Spider-man 4 because it sounds like they really need the time to work on the script.

This reminds me of the whole TDK exploding at the boxoffice, which pushed back HBP nearly a year, which moved Twilight up three weeks earlier.

Sony's Spider-Man problems go beyond the script. There are too many chefs in the kitchen, even though this time Avi Arad isn't one of them.

I expected Marvel to move Thor up to the first weekend of May as soon as the news came out about Spider-Man 4 being delayed. Marvel loves that first weekend of May release slot (and for good reason - it's one of the best release slots of the summer).

This can only be good news for Thor. Now granted it'll still need to show via previews, still photos etc that its worth lining up for but that release slot is a proven winner for Marvel movies. I recall Spidey, Iron Man and the X-Men films opening there and all doing well. Thor is likely to at least get butts in seat based on the public now being very familiar with the Marvel brand.

Pirates 4 works for me, while I'm still trying to figure out if a Thor movie can be accomplished without the end result being something slightly worse than both FF movies put together.

The jury in my tiny little brain is still definitely out on that one.

I thought Chris Hemsworth was good as George Kirk in STXI. There really hasn't been any real fantasy superhero movies released so I can see Thor taking off with the public like Iron Man did two years ago.

A lot of fantasy or fantasy-like films coming out this year, though. I hope the market doesn't get satured and tired of the genre by the time Thor comes around.

Fictitiously yours, Trent Roman

Just start filming Spider Man 4 without a finished script, that's what they did with POTC: At World's End and it in no way reflected on the quality of that movie. :shifty:

And I'm more interested in Warcraft than all three of those movies combined. I hope these delays don't impede this other Raimi flick at all.

I'm probably most interested in THOR, just because Spidey's been done already, but I'm also curious to see how much ON STRANGER TIDES is based on the (really good) Tim Powers novel of the same title.

I heard it will only be faithful in my name only.

Oh well. Here's hoping that Powers will be well compensated at least.

And who knows? Maybe the movie will boost the book's sales some.

Disney has bought the movie rights to On Stranger Tides so Powers has definately been paid. I think they'll take many things from the novel. Hopefully they'll have Blackbeard in POTC4 like the novel.

Some of us are still waiting for Raimi's Discworld movie, y'know. :)

I'm indifferent to Spider-Man 4. Maybe with a different cast, who actually gave a damn, I'd be more interested.
