THOR 2 will be released in Summer 2013

Jonathan Frakes, where are you, man?! How many times do I have to say it; Destiny calls! :p

I imagine it's going to be tempting for Marvel to thread the next set of movies as a lead-up to Avengers 2: Civil War (combining elements of the Kree / Skrull War and the Marvel Civil War series). Under that kind of scenario, Thor 2 could be an epic telling of Ragnarok featuring the death of Odin in battle against Surtur and the Odin-force passing to Thor at the end of the film.

From Wiki:

The final occasion involves a massive battle against arch-foe Surtur on Earth, with Odin apparently dying once and for all, as the Odin Force—the source of Odin's power—migrates to his son, Thor. As Thor eventually destroys the Loom of Fates and stops Asgard from perpetuating Ragnarok—which ends the entire Norse pantheon and Asgard itself—Thor believes Odin may be dead permanently. The Odinforce appears to him in humanoid form and says that this was Odin's plan all along: that he break the cycle.

An adaptation for Marvel Civil War could need the real Thor out the way for part of an Avengers 2 movie, and this would set that up. The Thor clone of Civil War could be worked in as a Skrull impostor instead, etc. There's room to shape things.

In any case, loads of potential for Thor 2.

This is good news. Kind of thought this would be officially green lit. I doubt Matthew Vaughn would have the time to jump on board another Marvel project, he has been eying a number of projects to follow up "X-Men:First Class". Indeed he was supposed to be doing something else entirely before that opportunity was offered him.

Disappointing Brangh won't be back. I can't think of anyone similar that would be available who would fit the character and world that he has helped to build.

Roger Avery.

Don't look at what Robert Zemekis did with Beowulf. Go back to Gaiman and Avery's original screenplay and look at how Avery wanted to direct it -- dirty, grungy, and visceral. What Avery wanted to do with Beowulf would fit Thor perfectly.

That scenario has a lot of ifs, ands, & buts in there.

Wow. I really need to label that as speculation? Of course, someone reading may notice I began the entire piece with "I imagine" instead of "I know" or "Sources tell me".

Sorry for ruining the thread, guys; I didn't realize my responses were limited to reaction about the day, date, green light and missing director (but we shouldn't speculate as to who that director could be - don't overlook that fire before it gets out of control).

Given how Marvel Studios are shafting their big movie directors and actors, how long till actors and directors decide to not work for them?

There really aren't enough heroes to do Civil War.

From what they've been saying about the next Iron Man movie, the solo films are going to go back to more isolated solo stories next time around.

^ This is what I've heard as well. While it's fun to think about a potential Civil War style movie really you're missing a big chunk of characters integral to that story's dynamic. Like Spider-Man, Reed Richards as well was a major driving force once he got behind the bill and developed the Negative Zone prison. You're missing over half the Marvel Universe. I don't think a cinematic Civil War would work very well. Plus I'd be pissed as an audience member if you had an internal "Avengers" civil war after spending all that time building up to them assembling.

i'd rather they did seperate individual movies for IM3, T2 and Cap2 and then bring all together for some world-threatening shenanigans in Avengers 2. like The Liberators showing up or Kang/Rama-Tut/Scarlet whatsit cocking around with time.

Dude, relax. It was a joke between AY and me.

^^^^
8 different people are credited with screenplay credits on THOR so Don Payne is just the first to join what I see as a writing team.

He was part of the writing team on this movie actually so he's just the first one back.
