This Topic Reassures Me I Am NOT TOO GEEKY

Before I came here, I thought I was a major geek for thinking the new Enterprise was pretty crappy, I was worried about the authors and producer, hated the new bridge and thought the plot sounded dumb.

But man.... some guys on here take my (in comparison) mild dissatisfaction for this movie and wow....it's like a bloody jihad with them or something.

Anybody else reassured of their own sanity by this topic?

I never needed assurance of my own sanity, but the inability of some people on here to look past TOS is puzzling.

I mean, don't get me wrong, I love the classic show but....jesus, it's just a movie.

And I'll admit I overreacted when I first saw the trailer but...now? Just a movie.

I really think this encompasses more than Star Trek. The writers' of this movie have essentially de-canonized everything after the birth of Jim Kirk. So The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, Voyager and Enterprise all go *poof* as far as this fictional universe goes.

The only thing I've seen so far is that time travel is being used as an excuse to change things. Abrams, Orci and Kurtzman obviously saw that their take on things wouldn't stand up to scrutiny. Just like Berman and Braga with Enterprise if they screwed something up, "Temporal Cold War!!!".

Bill, although they haven't said it...I just accept this as a reboot.

If it's good, it STILL doesn't replace the original show.

If it's bad, it DEFINITELY won't;)

I think Abrams and co. need to be the men they are and tell us upfront that this is a reboot. They've been dipping their fingers on this canon issue that's just too much of a powder keg.

Yeah, it's no big flippin' deal to me anymore....I mean, not unless there's still some old Paramount exec who STILL views the show as an embarassment and wants to erase it from existence:guffaw:

I agree 100%. Star Trek (the original) will always be with us and I hope like hell this upcoming film does really well. But, Abrams should just own up to the fact that this is a re-boot.

A clean slate offers fascinating possibilities that we haven't had since the 70's. Really opening up the universe to be explored again.

But...

If J.J. Abrams breaks into my house and steals my DVD's. It's ON!!! :guffaw:

I WAS NEVER SANE!!!11oneeleven

Finally, some honesty around here!

Do take that as a compliment.

Aaaaaaaaaanyway.

I mean....looking around, people bitching about the ship taking off on earth and vehemently, too.

I thought it was kinda dumb to do so but....just because I think it is, I wouldn't go into the detail some have gone into.

I will re-post what I just said in another thread.

"I am a Star Trek fan, I have been since 1975 when I was 12, but the things some fans obsess over makes me scratch my head in wonder. I am not a Star Trek Fundamentalist the type of fan who looks on these issues with almost religious zeal."
