The paperclips I totally get.
When I was processing checks, I can't tell you the number of times I cut my hands all to hell on staples. It's just an unavoidable hazard, really.
The licking? I don't know. I use a sealer or envelopes that have the little strip you remove because I'm lazy and the glue normally tastes horrid. I get why they're asking, but I think it's silly.
