This is my time!

As we all know there was almost a Star Trek series centered around Sulu and his crew from The Undiscovered Country. Whether or not it would have been good, especially if in Berman's hands, we will never know...it never came to be.

What other principle character from any of the other shows do you think could have carried a spinoff show. Not a movie series, a TV series. Meaning seven years, 170+ episodes. Riker TITAN? Any others you can think of?

Equinox's Captain Ransom, John Savage. I mean, if he weren't all evil.

And also from Voyager, Tuvok / Tim Russ.

I think Tuvok was a bit too dry, even for Vulcans, to be the principle character in a show. I think Jellico could have done quite well. He certainly had a command style different from any we had seen before. I also think you could put Kira and Bashir on a ship sent to explore the gamma quadrant after the defeat of the Dominion.

Another fine choice...a show like his would have been a great companion show to Picards, contrasting the different character and type of captain they were..good one!

The funny thing is, I don't think Kira would have worked as a captain in the first couple seasons. It wasn't until she learned the importance of following orders and understood what it meant to be in command of official power in the later seasons that she became ready. By combining those elements with her rogue nature from her days with the resistance we have an extremely intriguing character with a lot of potential to surprise viewers while not betraying her nature.

Oh, so true. I think the Kira character, having been explored so well, would have been better than building up Janeway as inconsistantly as they did...I actually think Kate Mulgrew is really good actress. But I think the material let her character down. I give her credit for doing as good as a job as she did...

There wasn't "almost a Trek show centered around Sulu" no matter how many times Takei retells the story. No one at Paramount in a decision-making capacity ever considered a "Captain Sulu" series. Some folks started an Internet petition :guffaw: clamoring for one, and Takei says that "one of the producers" suggested that "Flashback" could be a kind of pilot for one. But the notion that there was ever any real chance of it is a great big Trekkie Urban Legend.

I don't think any of the various shows' non-lead characters -- Sulu included -- could carry an entire series that runs to completion rather than gets canceled.

I don't think so.

Star Trek: Phase II = almost.

Star Trek: Sulu = wishful thinking.

I would like to have seen an Enterprise-C series, with the finale showing the battle of Narendra III and the final scene - "a fierce volley of photon torpodeos" and the "destruction" of the Enterprise. (Of course we all know what really happened to it) but it would have been a great ending, one we've never seen in a Trek series before. :techman:

What about the rumored Star Fleet Academy series?

I was thinking of just that and also it could be set after DS9 where we have O'Brien teaching at the Academy which could make him the lead character and then have a bunch of Cadets who go about with him doing stuff or whatever as the main cast. Instead of 90210 it could be instead Saved by the Bell type of series, having O'Brien like Mr Belding, a Cadet being like Zach, one like Screech etc. Now I'd watch that.

Call it "Welcome Back O'Brien"

Welcome back,
Your dreams were your ticket out.
Welcome back,
To that same old place that you laughed about.
Well the names have all changed since you hung around,
But those dreams have remained and they're turned around.
Who'd have thought they'd lead ya (Who'd have thought they'd lead ya)
Here where we need ya (Here where we need ya)
Yeah we tease him a lot cause we've hot him on the spot,
Welcome back, Welcome back, welcome back, welcome back.
