This guy has issues with Bill Shatner

He is trying to backpedal, and to make it even more odd, he apparently posted this on the board maybe back in 2006:

"Thanks for your post and views on this. I disagree that it was a "test" and if so a pretty petty one. I've always returned every phone call I've recieved other than clearly crank ones, and I've never called collect There are other, friendlier ways to test someone's credibility."

I can't be sure if PJ posted that since the board does not make it clear who is posting what. If that post is by PJ, he wasn't backpedaling them.

Am I missing something?

I actually find it amusing that he is still upset after all this time. Sounds like part of his issue is that he was embarrased that he actually had to use a payphone, though I would think at the time that was not all that uncommon.

#1: If you're going to blog about someone you hate, don't write an unbelievably boring rant.

Yeah, really. 85% of that blog entry had nothing to do with Shatner. And in case this gets read as some bitter Trekkie response, I was hoping for something juicy, too. I dig Shatner's Kirk but I'm not under any delusion that he hasn't been a real a-hole to people, either.

This guys REALLY needs to think of better names for his books. Honestly, it's all a variation of (rather generic) phrases with the word "dead" in them.

edit: Oh and check out the About section. There's something extremely douchechilling about a guy posing in front of his millions of cars and also listing every award he's ever received.

Huh, this is interesting, because now our blogger friend is trying to backpedal out of it. He writes:

I wrote the piece tongue-in-cheek. It seems that British humour doesn't translate too well in some languages/countries.

And then the ever famous Mr. Anonymous came back with this:

More like humor doesn't translate well to text, unless it is made explicitly clear that it's a piece of humor. You failed to do anything of the sort, thus leading the reader to the inescapable conclusion that you're a delusional nutjob with far too much time on your hands.
Consider yourself lucky Shatner doesn't sue your sorry ass for slander.

Oh, snap. Snap indeed, Mr. Anonymous. However, the blogger friend may indeed have been writing it as satire. Even so, it was not apparent that he meant it to be humorous. It sure as hell wasn't humorous- it sounded like the delusional ravings of someone who clearly should not be allowed around movie stars.

Our blogger friend has yet to reply. Any thoughts?
I thought it read like an attempt at self-serving satire when I clicked on the link a week ago. It just wasn't an entirely successful attempt. I'd put it about on a par with the story about the guy who won a bet with Harlan Ellison, back in 1960 (or whenever it was) -- sorta lame, but mildly entertaining for a moment or two.

:guffaw:OMG, I can't believe it. A quarter? :guffaw:

That is so lame, it's hysterical!
Hey, it was a gallon of gas in 1970! :p

Maybe it's some collect-call thing, but wasn't the cost of a phone call only 10 cents in those days? It wasn't 25 cents until the 80s.

The blog reads like a Trek BBS rant.

Yeah, yours.

Oh Really, Saul??

None of my rants are as stupid as this Shatner thing. There are plenty of rants sillier than I have ever posted.

I defy you to post an example of any rant that I have posted that compares with the sheer stupidity of that.. In fact I double dog defy you.

The gauntlet has been thrown. Time for you to put your money where your keypad is!!

I dare you!

I dunno, I can see this coming across as satirical. It really doesn't seem to be that serious to me and Peter James just seems like he wants to relay an anecdote about his life.

I would be slightly confused as well receiving a collect call from William Shatner! So it seems this guy has created a faux-rant about something that has confused him for decades.

I really wouldn't take it too seriously.

However - even if it is satirical, it's not exactly that funny or interesting. Certainly not to the point where it required several paragraphs of blog post.

It's really not a story that requires any more explanation than: 'LOL! This one time, The Shat collect called me. What a cheapskate!"

I love this story and if you factor the whole British humor spin into it it becomes something worth a chuckle. True or not, who cares?

Shatner is an icon.

Still waiting.

You've got nothing, pal!

You folks are over reacting a bit, don't you think? I don't see him saying he hates Shatner in the article at all. He just says Shatner was mean. A friend of mine met Shatner here in Canada many years ago, and he treated her like a piece of crap. Gave her the whole, "I'm William Shatner", speech. She hasn't been able to watch a movie or show with him in it ever since...his voice now grates on her nerves he treated her so badly.
