It certainly reads like a parody written in the first-person character of a clueless idiot.

I'm not too fond of Shatner myself, but hating a guy for a phonecall? 
I didn't get past the second paragraph "When I came out of film school".
Guy's a putz, but that some folks felt that they had to reply in order to defend Shatner at length - "he was broke in 1970" - is almost as weird.

Yeah, even if it's not a true story it all sadly remains quite plausible.
Broke or not, if some "producer" wants to talk to a star, it seems only fair that it be on the producer's dime (quarter).
So, let me get this straight. A nobody in the film business who doesn't even have a job, makes up a name and production company to basically fool Shatner into doing this movie that he technically isn't a part of yet, and he gets mad when Shatner doesn't shell out the money for a phone call. Seriously?!
I find it interesting that he doesn't say how the conversation went. If Shat was nice or a jerk on the phone. The guy is just fixated on the quarter.
