This film will break tech canon and bend fact canon

....or at least that's what I’m hoping for. I can live with different looking phasers, beam out effects, subtle changes to costumes and star ships..and even some minor factual violations..such the exact birth date of such and such or people meeting before or after they should(ala Chekov and Khan in TWOK)

But I hope they don’t break it or bend it to disbelief. That's what I’m worried about. If this was an all out reboot I wouldn't care. They can do whatever they want. But if they are even trying to stay with canon, they better do it right or it defeats the purpose. If breaking canon made a better film then they should of done reboot to start.

My fear is that in trying to muddle around and reconcile with continuity, they sacrifice the film's over all potential.

In the end all I want is GOOD Star Trek film. Period.

I'll be honest, I always thought the cannon debates and worries were always kind of silly. AS interesting as it is to see everything interconnected thanks to cannon, all I want is a good movie. If it's quality and enjoyable to watch many times, then I'm okay with letting continuity slide... yes, I know. I'm a horrible fan for saying such blasphemous words

I just chalk up the film as having ambiguous continuity. What matters is the story. If I'm dwelling on canonical arguments while watching the film, it isn;t keeping me entertained or engrossed and that's the big problem.

Okay. This one, I WILL use as a sigline, with your permission.

That ought to be the little trailer line subtitling this forum on the main page.

You have my permission to use it for either (or both). :D

^ Changing sig now. Seriously, that could be this forum's bloomin' Mission Statement!

Most excellent!

Why were original cast members of Lost in Space involved in the Lost in Space remake of a few years back?

They should never have greenlighted another "Prequel" story. I guess the desperation to recapture past glory made them go in this direction.

No, there is actually a large audience - me included - wanting to see new TOS adventures, but the original cast has grown too old to do the same sorts of stories they did so well in the 60s. And the 80s.

Since all-new characters, all-new casts (DS9, VOY, ENT) stopped garnering the right kind of attention, recasting TOS is an excellent way to go.

This isn't TOS.
Abrams, Orci, Kurtzman, Pine, Quinto, etc. had NOTHING to do with TOS.
The only one that is confirmed to be involved in this movie who WAS involved with TOS is Nimoy.
"Based upon" TOS is more accurate.
There can only be one original Kirk, original Spock, etc.

Of course it will be "based upon" TOS--as created by Gene Roddenberry, just as every film and series has since 1979. First of all, it's the legal thing to do and second of all not one of those people you listed have ever claimed or inferred that they were recreating the original show. Abrams wanted to tell a TOS era story and that's what this movie will be about. No one is saying that these people are out to usurp the recognition of the people who made TOS. If anything, they have gone out of their way to acknowledge and recognise their talent. One of the writers is even a fan of the novels, for f&ck's sake!!! That's pretty hardcore. I wish the people who continually piss and moan about every little bit of rumour and speculation could be as psyched to check this out.
