Thirty Years Ago Today....

....according to FARK, the greatest moment in TV broadcast history occured. Yes, the SHAT perfomed "Rocket Man". For those few of you that haven't experienced this life changing event, check it out on YouTube. I was priviledged to see this momentous performance when it was originally broadcast. I was speechless for 3 days.

Gotta love multiple video layers. There are a lot of messed up things that have been televised, but this is def. in the top 5.

I will honestly say that I was in shock when I first saw it... was never able to take Shat seriously ever again :(

I didn't see it until a few years ago, by which point Shatner had been doing the Priceline commercials for years. But this is sort of sad at the same time it's funny... unlike Priceline, or the MTV Movie Awards, or Boston Legal where we're laughing with him and he's in on the joke, you get the feeling he was serious about this interpretation of "Rocket Man."

Shatner Slaughters The Classics is available at all good record shops.

Bringing new irony to the term "Easy Listening". ;)

AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!!! :scream:

The nightmares had just stopped!

Damn you! Damn you to hell!

Ahem, sorry. Knee-jerk reaction.

I was one of those "priveleged" enough to see that ..., um ..., performance during its original broadcast, as well. I could never look at The Shat in quite the same way again.

Now ..., where did I put that therapist's number again ...?

I'm still not sure if the Shat was serious or not. My unreliable memory recalls that the awards show itself was one of the cheesiest things I had ever seen. "Kingdom of the Spiders" was up for an award, for criminys sake! I wonder if that's why Shatner agreed to do the show in the first place?

Wow, that was disturbing. This was the first time I've seen it, and now I understand why it has gone down in infamy the way it has.
