Third Doctors Tardis?

Crewman47

Commodore
Newbie
So far I've only watched the first 4 available episodes of the 3rd Doctor and I do know that essentially the Tardis is grounded but we have seen the Doctor go in and out meaning that the interior is still there, so why then doesn't the Doctor use the resources of the Tardis to conduct scientific experiments and tests and perform any other tasks that can't be done or done without fuss using convential Earth technology?

Did the Timelords simply close off all access to the inside of the Tardis beyond the control room or doesn't the Doctor have scientific equipment at that time as I'm sure he's had it in the past and in later years?

Especially with Liz, he does use equipment from inside the Tardis for experiments. It's a long time before they show the inside of the ship, but at least he goes inside, grabs stuff, and comes back out with it.

Things calm down a bit that way when Liz leaves and gets replaced by the useless Jo Grant. That's when the Time Lords feel sorry for him and start letting him travel again out of sympathy.

this is an easy question to answer.. the 3RD doctor's mind was wiped of almost all high forms of technology, and the secrets of the tardis were unknown to the doctor..in some instances the time lords gave him back knowledge but in most cases the interior of the ship had foggy memories..not to give earth much technology, the doctor would usually make do with what he had, cause he couldn't normally escape if need be..

This would imply the 3 was the most limited (mentaly crippled?) doctor since alot of his knowledge was hidden.

The only thing removed from his brain was the dematerialiion codes/protocols... Imagine trying to live life if you couldn't use the 12 times tables anyu more? Not that great an impact really unless you worked in a an egg factory and were expected to stack cartons.

Look a how pimped out Bessy was, or his "door knob"?

I think he was a show off who just liked to prove he could get the job done with a hand tied behind his back, similar to how 5 almost never used his sonic screw driver.

The TARDIS interior is wierd.

Every episdoe it's almost completely different.

As if the set so rarely used that it doesn't deerve it's own sound stage that they pull it apart between scenes for other vistas to be filmed on. The desktop theme was set on shuffle. perhaps?

Don't forget that in in Inferno he had the console out of the TARDIS and in a shed.

I think he was limited by the time lords on higher technology..the fact he could trick bessie out was because he was a pure genius.. and because he could reverse the polarity on things.. LOL

Not just in Inferno. I recall it also being out of the TARDIS in Day of the Daleks, too. Of course the question of how he managed to get it through the doors is left to our imagination!

I think perhaps that little stunt gave him a scare, and he didn't want to fiddle around too much with the console until he knew what he was doing.

He did spend a lot of time fiddling with the dematerialization curcuit though.

What perplexes me is that in the planet of the daleks, his Tardis had a limited air supply, and he was about to passout from lack of air.. and yet we find out that the Tardis is massive and has it's own gardens and such to produce oxygen.. so it's kinda conflicting..

Maybe the vents were locked shut and the console room is air tight?

Couldn't he travel (in limited fashion) with the console? Might be how he got it out of the TARDIS.

He was able to go between universes in Inferno with just the console.

Yeah but he didn't exactly plan to do that!

I'm guessing the answer is more mundane, the console probably splits into sections so he could move it to the hanger then reassemble it.

^ Well that's definitely how the BBC guys did it

And if we look closely, they probably reassembled the pieces in the wrong order.
