Nice! I like Saru, and James Swallow is one of the best writers of the fiction's current crop. Looking forward to seeing him build on the foundation created by Mack in Desperate Hours.

I am not sure I needed a whole Saru Year One novel but I will buy it because of the author.

I have noticed a few tv shows start tie-in lines with prequel books lately, at least until the first season has aired. It makes sense when you think about it as it gives the publishers less stress in keeping up with creative changes while the show is being established. Most tv shows take half a season to figure out what is working and what is not when scripts start being filmed.

I would really love a Peter David Discovery novel even though it seems unlikely.

Yeah, I'm wondering when we'll get books set during the show. Now that the first chapter is done with, there are definitely some gaps you could place one in-- the run from episode 4 through 8 you could fit in a relatively standalone adventure.

Heh. Funnily enough, an early outline for the book did have a familiar Starfleet doctor appearing in it... But it was Phlox, not Bones.

I think it's mainly because most shows have fairly tight arcs these days, so it's easier to do a story before the main plot started.
