Thinking of Writing a Novel

^Huh?
The second, I'm almost ashamed to say, is totally YA, and so it would be completely inappropriate to mix with the first which already has a violent bank robbery, a murderer who confuses sex with garroting his victims, and a golden shower.
But that's exactly what teenagers want to read about.
I have to believe there are some innocents left in the world -- even if I was never one of them!
I like where this story is going! On a side note, I wish you the best of luck, TSQ. By now, the internet and television have destroyed my ability to coalesce continuous, linear thought into the written word, and the stamina to make it anywhere approaching book length.

Thank you! it's funny. I never thought I had it in me to write a novel, and then, quite suddenly, I find myself working on two!

So, I'm 12000 into the YA novel, and my little sister has been reading through and making notes for me.

My sister gave me great notes. I trust her opinion, she's very smart and has good taste. One of her most positive notes was that the main character is very relatable. The thing is, this novel is very true to personal experience, and while I wouldn't even say that it was semiautobiographical, I do draw a lot from my own childhood when writing the main character and her experiences. So when she said the girl is relatable, I was like, well, yeah, of course you relate to her!

I'm going to have to find some one whose never been a twelve year old girl with an alcoholic father and a mentally ill mother to read it, I think. :)

Anyway, it's amazing how this is just pouring out. 1200 words in 5 days! If I didn't have work I suspect I'd have twice as much done by now!

Just thought I'd give a little update. I hit 30,000 words today, in the YA novel. Also found a really awesome resource, as one of my characters is in the FBI: Apparently they have a unit dedicated to helping authors/TV/Filmmakers research and portray the bureau accurately. Pretty nifty!

If you're on Live Journal, there's a fantastic community called little_details - it's set up for writers to ask any questions that they can't find answers to elsewhere. It's a fantastic resource!

And well done with the writing, I hope the flow continues :techman:

^Oooh, thanks! I might have to join! I figured I might need to do some research when I got to the part where the special agent character is introduced and realized that the majority of my knowledge about the FBI comes from The X Files and Criminal Minds.:borg:
