STAR TREK: PHASE II (animated or CGI limited series)
Happens after the 70’s animated series where the 5 year mission ends. There are three phases of a new technology which phase 1 happened during the animated series where Chekhov was part of and the reason he wasn’t part of the cartoon series, while phase 2 is where certain ships are picked to be refitted into test ships like the Enterprise to test the prototypes to see what needs to be fixed or what can be improved which would be the Enterprise of the never made live Star Trek: Phase 2 series, while phase 3 would be the Enterprise that was first revealed in Star Trek: The Motion Picture. Kirk would perhaps have been promoted as an admiral so there would be a new captain for the testing phase while Spock headed back to Vulcan to make the preparation of purging his emotions and McCoy went into “self-exile” I believe. Some of the original crew would perhaps be there as well as Arex and M’Ress or perhaps new or never used characters like Xon. The testing would involve 6 months.
Possible Story ideas
(1) Malfunctioned Life Support Belts – It’s discovered that providing an atmosphere field caused a great strain to the circuits and made them slowly degrade which would have led to a malfunction that would have killed the user when it came to the outside atmosphere, thus the reason they stopped using them for common use, while they believe that they had to warn the Orions of this since they probably got theirs by stealing the technology from Starfleet since they’re pirates who probably even sold the tech to others through the black market and theirs were crude in comparison. There is of course is a big mix up when it comes to politics between the green and blue Orions like how they pronounce Orion which Star Trek: Lower Decks showed which causes some trouble. It’s mentioned that like humans of earth there’s also different types of Orions with their own culture, like how they dress for example, which seems to clash with each other and both sides are too stubborn to live in harmony.
(2) How the Klingons got their original forms back – It’s revealed that some female Caitians were kidnapped by Klingon scientists because of what is called the mechanism which (1) allows female Caitians to breed with other mammals and (2) it strengthens the youngling’s Caitian DNA to become dominant which would mean that a halfbreed would practically be like a full Caitian despite having the father’s non-Caitian DNA while the theory is that the Caitians may have once came close to being extinct and nature solved that problem. The Klingon scientists managed to create a serum that sacrificed their prisoners which would strengthen the Klingon genetics to became dominate thus reverting them back to their original selves and the first one to take the serum looks like a semi-original Klingon and it’s said that the process is still going on and he’s still changing. The understandably enraged M-Ress ask the Klingon scientists on how they plan to keep their precious honer for the cost of getting back their former glory. For the sake of preventing a war, Starfleet agreed to keep this a secret while the formula files were already sent to the Klingon empire and no doubt most Klingons won’t even know the real origin of the serum.
(3) The Phase II Enterprise has some glitches – The reason for the phase II test ships is to test out the experimental technology until Starfleet decides that it’s time for phase III. The warp field becomes unstable after reaching a certain speed and prevents the Enterprise from being able to stop. Since they’re going a little above maximum warp, they need to find a way to stop before the engines overheat in a couple of hours and perhaps make the ship explode. It’s also revealed the recreation room has glitches when it comes to people simulations and crashes the environment simulation and one mentions what this will be like once the tech is perfected (holodeck). Scotty or another chief engineer wonders if they’ll ever reach phase III.
(4) A ghost ship that’s the same model as the upgraded form of the Enterprise NX-01 but with another name. It’s revealed that the crew is long dead and a type of parasite controls the circuitry and systems to make it function as if it was a “zombie ship”. Members of the Enterprise crew inside get a “haunted house” experience while Xon believes that the engrams of the dead crew have been absorbed into the parasite. The ship can take damage that would normally cripple it because again it’s like a zombie ship.
(5) Harcourt Fenton Mudd and Cyrano Jones join forces – The two, joined by fate and willing to stab each other backs when the need comes, are on the run from the Ferengi because they conned the con man so to speak and the Enterprise ends up getting involved while the con men were hoping for Kirk to being available when they saw the Enterprise. It’s mention that Starfleet and the Federation rarely contact this species because of their lack of interest in commerce and of course dressing their females since they’re not buying anything from them to allow tolerance. They search the two in case they have either tribbles or whatever Mudd has after that love potion indecent and it’s believed that he learned his lesson when it came to androids.... for now. Since the two are citizens of the Federation, despite having criminal records, they would have to use diplomacy and finding out what the two did that caused this mess while the Ferengi may have other plans. In the end another Starfleet ship picks up the two and it looks like a ship from the 60’s TV series since it’s not a test ship.
(6) It’s revealed that Xon’s mother was a Romulan spy – The mother is now on the run and the father is being held for questioning. The Enterprise being the closest has the duty of getting her while she hides in the shadows and buys passage from smugglers to get to the neutral zone. Xon, despite being a disciplined Vulcan, has to go through the burden of realizing that he may have never knew his mother. It’s mention that Vulcans and Romulans are very similar in biology and a medical method could easily disguise the slight differences. The leaders of Vulcan believe that logically Xon’s mother couldn’t have been the only Romulan spy while wondering how long has this been going on.
(7) A planet with a serious xenophobia problem – A world just developed warp speed and the Federation task the Enterprise to send an invite for membership to the Federation while discovering that they’re only tolerant with people who look similar to them like humans and Vulcans for example but arrest Arex for he is seen as an abomination that must be exterminated. The leaders of the world try to “reason” with the captain on why it’s necessary to rid people like Arex which brings the captain in utter disbelief that they can’t see how wrong it is to make one’s appearance into a serious crime while thinking it’s righteous. Even Xon couldn’t see the logic in this since Arex did nothing that would be considered threatening. They of course rescue Arex and make their getaway while this planet’s leaders send a complaint to the Federation saying that what the captain did was wrong and they had every right to exterminate the “filth” which also brings them in utter disbelief. This brings forth the decision to studying the culture for each candidate planet they never visited before deciding to ask them to join.
(8) The origin of the Pakleds – It’s revealed that a scientist, an alien woman not yet seen in the Star Trek universe, was experimenting with a primitive life form to create an advanced form of intuition which would explain how a species as dumb as Pakleds would be a post warp society. The scientist’s world didn’t have a membership to the Federation and couldn’t be prosecuted for illegal genetic engineering (Khan). M-Ress asks the scientist why she thought creating a race of super-idiots was a good idea and Xon agrees that this would logically lead to diaster since the newly named Pakleds are mentally like children while naturally having very strong bodies. One of the Pakleds of course yells ‘We are strong!’ and does end in disaster with a big explosion that kills the scientist while it’s believed that the Pakleds perished as well but some survived as well as the scientist’s ship and other tech for them to “intuitively” learn to use to begin their voyage of spreading their stupidity to the universe as well as taking other people’s stuff. In the 24th century a historian reveals that it was a long time before the Pakleds were seen again and were rarely known until the 2360s.
(9) A world created a different type of interstellar travel – This becomes a puzzle for the Federation because after a culture becomes post-warp, and of course some checking to see if it’s safe, they send an invite to join and it’s usually warp speed tech. This society created a means to open a portal to folded space (think of Babylon 5) that would greatly shorten the distance from point A to point B, a shortcut so to speak, but the experiment proves to be unstable and the Enterprise attempts a rescue mission in this folded space that soon makes things unstable for technology and must finish before they reach the point of no return.
(10) End of Phase II – Starfleet has decided that it’s now time for all their ships to go to Phase III. The movie ships. The crew start to pack up and say their goodbyes as they go to their new assigned posts and it’s mention that the new caption will be Will Decker which was recommended by Admiral Kirk. In the end the Phase II Enterprise goes into docking as the engineers refit it into it’s movie version.
