Spoilers Think it's time for [Spoiler] to get his own command

After all what Data went through and his big sacrifice in Nemesis and assuming that he's a big part of stopping the big thread in the finale of PIC Season 3, i would like to see a promotion for Data to Captain of a new ship.

Would be nice to have Data as the Captain, Seven as first officer and Shaw as the Chief Engineer of the Titan in Legacy.

Think Shaw way better fits into engineering than commanding a ship.

By the way, i was reading an interview with Spiner today with him telling the interviewer that he wants to continue playing Data and that there are probably plans for it.

He especially mentioned that the dark side Data got from Lore, while not playing a role in the finale of PIC Season 3, apparently will be something he needs to come to terms with...

I think that Data would make a good Fleet Captain, coordinating the networked Starfleet ships like when he centrally oversaw Daystrom. data could also act as some form of fleet ‘firewall’. He could be physically based on the flagship. :techman:

Scotty was a Captain of Engineering in the TOS movies. Perhaps that could be the role Shaw takes in this scenario? Regardless, I LOVE the ideas of Captain Data!

An ambassador at large?

We could have a captain who's literally wired into his ship.

Yes, but remember that the Synth ban just ended. Before we start sending out ships under direct control of Synths, we need someone like Data to show why that arrangement is safe. Data has more experience functioning among a Starfleet crew than any other android, and a list of commendations that any organic would envy. Making him perfect for bridging the proverbial gap. And Voyager's EMH, if still functioning, should be working alongside him.

Maybe they still have some of the Texas class ships from Lower Decks.

Data with emotions and a balanced personality + all his android capabilities is, quite simply, too overpowered to be the captain in a series. He would overshadow his entire crew, thinks a zillion times faster, can access data far faster than his subordinates as 'advisors', is physically far more capable... in a way, it'd be like having Superman as captain. He could recite more Shakespeare and archeological facts than Picard, engineer things better than Geordi, access obscure medical knowledge faster than Crusher, and fight better than Worf. Neat idea on paper, but it would make for the most boring Trek show ever.

I think that Data would evolve to become more of a ship board embedded ‘sentient AI’ with a physical avatar represented by the Brent Spiner golem. I think that we are now likely passed having a Brent Spiner led series, though we probably all thought the same thing about a new Patrick Stewart led series a few years ago. It *would* however be cool for Star Trek to further explore the idea of artificial intelligence and its role in society, considering how relevant the development of AI is at the moment in current affairs, using Data as a central character. Perhaps Data could be recast with a new Soong android? Data’s consciousness could be uploaded in to a new golem body yet again?

I do definitely believe that Data, or some form of him (or should it now be them?), could continue in a new 25th century continuation series in some capacity, whether it be Terry Matalas’ Legacy series or otherwise. Hopefully, Data does *not* become appropriated and installed on to a Section 31 ship though! Spiner would not even have to appear physically in each episode, he could provide voice work for the computer interface like Majel Barret and Judi Durand have done so in the past.

Data could perhaps even become a bit like Hal from 2001: A Space Odyssey.

After all, he does have a bit of Lore in him still?

This is the cast and crew talking about what inspired this final version of Data.

While I'm good with a Captain Data series, I'm also fine with "The Last Generation" being the final appearance of all the 90s Trek characters. It's a fitting sendoff.

But being who he is/was, he would maintain people on his ship because he can still learn from them and continues to value them for the ways they enrich his life and the lives of others.

He still can't be everywhere all at once. Unless he has a ship crewed by avatars of himself, all doing different things.
