Things You USED TO Like About 'Family Guy'

Eh, I'd say there have still been some funny episodes here and there - 'The Cleveland/Loretta Quagmire' for example - and I do understand your reasons for liking it more once it got past the earlier episodes, I just respectfully disagree. ;)

I'm just about done with this show. I was a big fan of it's first run. The reasons have already been stated by others in this thread.

See, I keep seeing people say Stewie has gotten worse, but I think he's the only character that has gotten better throughout the series. Brian however seems to have become a complete douchebag which annoys me. Brian used to be my favourate character because of his sarcastic wit towards Peter.

I think what I miss more about FG is the shock humour, not so much in your face, but the first time I ever watched FG there was a bit on the news about whose selling sea shells at the sea shore, and as the guy repeats it, a bear jumps through the wall. I completely pissed myself.

Also little segments like:

Tom Tucker: Now to Ollie Williams for the blacke weather report, Ollie;
Ollie: IT'S RAININ' SIDEWAYS
Tom: Thanks Ollie.

Those moments really make/made me laugh a lot, if anything I want more of those.

I think the show should learn to refrain from cutaways that exceed one minute in length. Possibly 30 seconds.

I particularly agree, Cky. I think FG's 'shock humor' at its best is better characterized as 'surprise humor.' This takes into account both the things that make you do a double-take with disgust and the non sequiturs that make you fall out of your chair.

I would also not say Stewie has gotten 'worse' as much as bland. I like him when he was still more in the Rex Harrison vein.

My favorite:

Tom Tucker: Now here's Ollie Williams with this week's Adopt-a-Pet segement. Ollie?

Ollie: WHO WANTS THIS DOG!?

Tom Tucker: Thanks, Ollie.

:)

^ Haha, see what I mean, thinking about that scene made me laugh.

Watching FG now actually, on BBC Three.

'The Cleveland/Loretta Quagmire' was a turning point for me. The point at which I went from just finding the show annoying, to actively wishing for something to happen, up to and including the death of those involved in making it, to end the show. Quagmire is not funny. Period. At the risk of sounding like TLS, he is beyond immoral, and the embodiment of part of what is wrong with the world.

OTOH, I have to admit that, in working IT, I have been guilty of repeating the following (And I've never even seen "Ollie"!):

"Didja check yer TCP/IP settings?

Didja clear yer cookies?

You want this damned dog?"

It cracks me up, and I almost think I find it funnier now than I would if I actually saw the scene it is from. It's just ... weird.

Yeah, now THAT was a good one! The show needs more humor like that. :guffaw:

Yeah, the random Monty Pythonesq style really worked for Family Guy.

After watching it for years, I just find that some of the edginess is gone from the social satire into a bunch of rather dragged out or forced 'gross out' gags. They have their place in the show but I just don't find it as witty as it used to be. Also there are times where a joke has run it's course and they just drag it out or keep coming back to it when it wasn't funny initially.

Also Meg used to be treated like a human being.

After giving it a little thought, I have decided to stop watching new episodes. Illl stick with the much improved "American Dad". Well, now newFG episode have gone the way of new "The Simpsons" episodes.

Exactly.
