Things you learnt off YouTube

YouTube is often maligned as being useless, but I have found many good instructive videos on it. This includes recipes, recalling how to crochet, organising tips etc.

I would appreciate if people could tell us any skill, tips etc that they learnt off YouTube - links to the video would be appreciated if posible.

My first one (which many will find boring) is

25 ways to wear a scarf

I looked up how to replace the power window regulator for my son's old Grand Am.

I have not worn a tie regularly for years, so when the occasion arises, I hit Youtube for a reminder.

Also, for people looking for fitness and work out tips, Zuzanna Light had all of her Bodyrock.tv work outs on Youtube. Personal trainer quality work out routines for free. She's no longer on Bodyrock.tv, but her routines are still up on Youtube.

I occasionally watch videos from here to learn something new or get a refresher. All the videos are hosted on YouTube and are completely free and very intuitive.

Khan Academy

With a library of over 3,000 videos covering everything from arithmetic to physics, finance, and history and 314 practice exercises, we're on a mission to help you learn what you want, when you want, at your own pace.

That for some reason EVERYONE adds that buffering animation to their videos at the most inopportune times.

I used this tip to get one of my boy cats into the cat carrier - before seeing this I used to wrap them in a towel but this tip works better.

Hm, I would still have trouble getting the pillow case near certain cats, but it would help with moderate strugglers.

Personally, I've used youtube to help me change the brakes on my car (I'm not very car-minded) and to change the power transfer grommet on our washing machine after it disintegrated.

I've used it to refresh me on software I don't use that often and learn new software. Also makes for a handy "crib sheet" for only skills that have rusted up or need a little updating.

Yes. My father in-law used youtube videos to help troubleshoot problems on our laptops.

I learned to play "Somewhere over the rainbow/wonderful world" on the ukulele.

I've also fixed a blocked filter in the new(ish) upright clothes washer.

The dial for air in the car only worked in off, low, xxxx, and high. Found how to replace the regulator behind the glove box to make all settings work.

...off the top of my head...

I'm in the process of trying to learn calligraphy and when I get confused about something, I go to youtube for advice!

The scarf video is one for me as well! And how to walk in high heels, lol.

Also, I learn tons of little factoids from the comments! Yeah, there are a lot of stupid ones but my trivia knowledge has truly been expanded by youtube comments. :D

I've been using the Tube of You to learn how to play the concertina. So far, little success.

I've also picked up some pointers in audio manipulation from some YouTube videos.

Apart from that, I also listen to some of the music videos there and try to pick out and verify the guitar chords from them (especially if the song chord databases elsewhere are in disagreement). Also, lyrics.

There are probably other things of note that I've learned from the Tube of You (and subsequently forgotten), but these are off the top of my head.

Wet shaving with a traditional double-edged safely razor... haven't bought those disposable cartridges in years.
