Things you HATED about this show. As much as there are positives about STD there is much CRINGE!

The U.S.S. Frankin in Beyond does have the window wiewscreen, abeit considerably smaller and more primitive. For all we know the window display was how Federation starship viewscreens were designed from around 2164 until at least the DSC era, save for ships like the Constitution-class. The giant HD flatscreen may have been a trend that came back into fashion around the same time the Enterprise 1701 and her sister vessels were constructed and launched.

You know Starfleet. Always changing its mind and trying out new technology - or reviving old and making it even better and more efficient.

Sorry, I won't be click baited with that video. That video (youtube?) is pointless, so I won't click and watch it. To each to their own.

It's a shame that you're lurking on a "what sucked about Star Trek Discovery" thread, but your confirmation bias that the show was wonderful is apparently too strong to allow you to listen to well-articulated, considerately-presented counter-arguments in a fan video about what could have gone better, simply because they may run opposite to your opinions.

Fear truly is a mind-killer. I'll go give the dude an extra like on his video for you.

We've waited too long for this..too long for a new ST Series.... And finally did it happen BUT
ST Discovery has two HUGE fault.. this could have been a new kickstarter for the ST universe,
cuz the two first episodes has it all..... but two ...two huge mistakes

1 : Bringing in a ' bigger star as ' Michelle Yeoh, it was from the first moment she entered, known of cause she would die....

2 : Klingons , too much dialogue in the episodes, and the biggest mistake, are their voices...like hearing the housewifes of NY... their voices should be strong and powerful, instead their voices are like littel girls.

Those huge mistakes i think will cost the new series a lot !

If it were to be reniewed for a second season, would be surprised... to much amateur faults this time...
the rest of the two episodes were excellent..but those two huge mistake ruined it

So I've finally watched the first two episodes, I was waiting until I could watch it with my girlfriend.

My first impression: wow, this looks great, the production values are movie quality, clearly a lot of money went into this

Second impression: I'm kind of bored. Nothing is going on other than a war with klingons and A LOT of character development for a character I'm beginning to really dislike.

As I'm nearing the end of the second episodes, I'm thinking, well all my and everyone elses fears came true, this is just another depressing pew-pew show and as much as I want it to be good, it's just not. Then as I'm about to utter this out loud, my gf (she's not a Trekkie) goes "wow, this was good" so I kept my mouth shut, no need to dissuade her interest in the show. I guess I'll keep watching it, but I'm basically treating it as any random fantasy shows, a Game of Thrones in space - which, as I recall, a lot of people on these boards kept arguing that nothing is suggesting that STD is going to be GOF, but now I've seen it and IT IS! Which is fine, GOF isn't the worst show around, but STD is not Star Trek.

On the other hand, ENT also started out with a boring Pilot and then got good, but I just don't see them discarding the excessive amount of character development that is going on in the first few episodes later on, the depressing/shitty tone of the show is also likely to remain, the war with the klingons is also likely to remain. AT BEST I'm hopeful that they might throw in 2-3 good episodes per season, to justify the title of the show.

In conclusion, this is the type of a show you watch half-attentively, sipping on a brewskie, and not one that makes you ponder over the big questions, our future and the phenomena we might encounter as we boldly go where no man has gone before. There's nothing they can do to salvage the show, short of killing "Michael Burnham" and focusing on some other random ship in the other sector of the galaxy. The truth is that a lot of effort went into the making of this mediocre show.

The best parts are the visuals. I really liked the brig scene and the five second exploration of the "artifact"

What sort of reprisal are you worried about? The Federation throwing you into one of its gulags?
I worry about verbal pitchforks, and metaphorical lynch mobs. My species has evolved to sense the coming of outrage...I sensed it coming then.

Fortunately I refrained from my diatribe. Whining gives me heartburn

Basically everything was terrible, ESPECIALLY the Klingons. Are we sure STD isn't just a really bad redub of an unrelated TV series, with a Star Trek label slapped on it, like they did with Power Rangers?

Yes, I've already accepted that this isn't Star Trek... they made a random show with cool visuals and slapped a reputable brand on it. It's a shame, but I'm not going to entertain any hopes that this is going to change. I think all fans should just accept this as reality and move on.

The fact that the production people have studied and made reference to a 1983 novel about the Klingons is proof enough to me that they are not going about this casually. If people are getting their shorts in a knot over design details, they have my pity.

Its funny, but most of those outraged do not even see the many easter eggs

I don't care if you give that dude an extra like or whatever. You are welcome to even create clones and give him hundreds of extra like to him. Or maybe you can suggest that dude to open the patreon and you donate $50 per month? please do what you like. Because I don't care about his video at all. I don't even click the video, and I don't know if it's youtube or other streaming services. So how can I put dislike to that video? So do what you please, I just don't care :D I just don't want to take the click-baited for that guy's convenient.

If You have some opinions about the negative things in Discovery, just write it here. Not showing a video that people have to watch it. Unless you have an audience target that you have to fulfill in some kind of youtube / video streaming service. If that's truly your motive, then good luck.

The Good:
1). Sonnequa - wow wow wow, she's a great actress. I like that they're doing the reverse Spock too. A human struggling to act Vulcan
2). Yeoh (I like her character - no spoilers)
3). Great effects

The Meh:
1). The Abrams-ization of the TOS technology in a supposed Prime timeline. Where are the analog controls? Why is everything digital all of a sudden. They could have handled this is a cooler way---maybe kept all the knobs and dials but added LED screens, etc. An aesthetic compromise could have been worked out. This tech seems more advanced than Voyager!

Are there REALLY Trek fans who want sixties tech?

The UGLY / CRINGE / HATE!!!!
1). Purple sparkle Klingons
2). Klingons as a metaphor for Trump supporters. THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO BE SOVIETS! Stop twisting canon and forcing a square peg into a round hole
3). Lifting the story of the first two episodes from Balance of Terror, but swapping the Klingons in for the Romulans. WHAT. THE. F.
4). Doug Jones whatever the heck that orange guy is. Looks like a cheap rubber Halloween costume that someone superglued to his face

Man, what?

Wow.

Re: Matter 2#

I am reminded of how people called me out in my books regarding being an anti-Trump man because I made an evil US President (from the future who was a time traveling warlord based on Kang the Conqueror crossed with the Red Skull) for my superhero book.

Sometimes a Klingon is just a Klingon.

It's pretty clear they used the divisions in America as a key point with the Klingon make up here. He even has a catch phase which work with the immigrant and racial divides. But this is classic trek, it does stuff like this all the time.

Maybe I'm just seeing with my own biases as I thought they were Jihadists.

Nope, they were the far right though and though. Same catch phases, same goals. To bring back the good all days, to attack diversity and inclusion, to see it as weakness and an attack on them. In place of "Make the Empire Great again" he simply shouted "Remain Klingon"

A religious bunch of terrorists launching a sneak attack against a secular Western government to reunite the lost kingdom of a ancient religious figure. Nah, I can't see why I'd see them as Al-Qaeda/ISIS instead of Trump.

:)

Also, T'kuvma is pro-integration.

You do not live in the bible belt then man. The empire was together, it was just divided politically. He gave them a war to unit them. If you think the far right in the US is not as deeply entrenched in religion as some places in the middle east, you must live up north:lol:

I live in Ashland, Ky which is straight in the heart of it. I'm a theist myself. The Klingons are definitely how the locals see Muslims. It's why I'm hoping the Federation allies with some other Klingons against them.

But that's just my opinion. I think Trump would by necessity require a leader of the Federation versus the Klingons.
