Things you HATED about this show. As much as there are positives about STD there is much CRINGE!

I think it's a relatively small scale war, where no planets have been invaded, because they said that 8,000 people had died, and that's over the course of 6 months.

I'd have to check, but I think Lorca said something to the effect of the Federation being greatly affected by the war in terms of its post-scarcity economy.

Well to be fair, the Federation is engaged in a war for its very survival that we've never seen anyone reference in the future, ever.

Sorry, that little bit of continuity violation bugs me.

TNG brings up the Federation/Klingon conflict. Heck a war in this era has been a fan fav since the 80's.

Star Trek is pretty vague on things that happen in between series, and in TOS there was open aggression between the Federation and the Klingons which the Klingons seemed to believe they would win.

You are holding Discovery to a higher standard of continuity than you hold the series you like.

I'm willing to say that I might be holding DIscovery to a higher standard of continuity than other series, but I feel that's somewhat justified considering we've had what, five series and ten movies previous to it. But the main point of this reply is that I actually like Discovery quite a bit.

I'll have to go back and check, but I thought that was 8000 deaths in the first battle of the war - i.e. The Battle of the Binary Stars.

It was supposed to be the casualities of the first 2 days. It's probably cumulative figure of the casualties at the Battle of the Binary Stars and other klingon assaults on ships or colonies.

Major problems with the story, especially involving those involving pacing and characterization, some awkward dialogue, the set design, and the appearance of Klingons.

Again, citing precedent in another fictional show means pretty much nothing to me. They had holodeck fireplaces didn't they?

Multiple fireplaces and campfires. Data's Sherlock Holmes and A Christmas Carol programs. The Henry V program run by both Data and Picard. Chez Sandrine on the Voyager holodeck.

And never mind the fact that the Xindi probe attack on Earth is never referenced in any other chapter of the Trek franchise outside ENT save for Beyond, at least thus far. I'd love to hear Lorca or another Starfleet officer mention the Xindi scare of the 2150s in a future episode but Trek is notoriously bad at referencing historical events that occurred in previous series and films, even if they were supposed to be enormous and moments that forever altered the course of Earth or Federation history.

Doesn't mean we won't hear about them, though.
