I thought that Enterprise-D's deflector dish was a "super phaser" even before TBOBW.
When the deflector is used in "The Best of Both Worlds" it does remind you of the wave motion gun from Star Blazers (Space Battleship Yamato).

the TOS command shirts were a green-gold. Television has never been known for its color integrity. (TV engineers jokingly say that NTSC stands for "never the same color." However, the material of those shirts was partly responsible for the color ambiguity.)

Well, if you discount that the deflector dish effect was LAME. It looked like a tinkerbell magic sparkly ray compared to the Wave Motion weapon in that clip.

I first watched the show as a very young person in the 70s. I was about 12 years old. I never caught that! I discovered that here on this forum!
