Let's see, I learned much about American politics, how screwed up it can be at times, a few facts about religion, and how all of them can be discussed endlessly in one corner of the board with neither side agreeing with the other. I learned that you can lurk in there, but you should post at your peril .

Other than that, I mainly learned there can be mature communities on the Internet, which can be explained by the fact that this was about the first board I signed up to that didn't revolve around a game of some kind.

A LOT more politically conservative Star Trek fans than I thought. They're are also a lot who are resistant to change, despite supposedly being forward-thinking.

That was the biggest shock for me when I came online. It still kind of bewilders me. Of course, having been a kid in the 60s, I'm a little bewildered that there are still Right Wingers at all in the 21st Century.
