Things that frustrate us all

Had that happen to me last September with my card. Damned annoying. Two cards at once?! Wow... even more fucked up.

I hate thieves. Always have.
Amazon. Amazon is annoying.

And, yeah, having busted several thieves in the retail days I cannot stand them. And it's getting more brazen from what my friends still managing stores tell me.

I'm loathed to admit this, but as a customer, I have had nothing but good experiences with Amazon. Same with my wife.

As someone who worked for a company owned by Amazon (Whole Foods), they are absolutely horrible.

Regarding thieves in stores... of course, they are getting more brazen. When states and cities don't even bother to prosecute shoplifters and such, criminals will get bolder because they know they won't suffer any consequences.

It doesn't make things better for the pigs...

How do you burn a pot of spaghetti? I can barely make toast without burning it, but even I can make spaghetti.
My mom and I are starting to get frustrated with one of my older sisters. She keeps getting pets, but she barely takes care of them, and then the moment they become even the slightest bit inconvenient, she dumps then, usually on us before she moved. She had rats that literally tried to kill each other, and we eventually found out that it was because she was refusing to give them more food until they ate all of it, but the problem was half of what was in the food was filler that they don't eat, so they were practically starving. Once she got fed up and gave them to us, the never fought again. Practically every dog she had was constantly peeing and crapping in the house, and destroying it, but when we took care of them, and once she got tired of dealing with them and gave them to us permanently, they never did any of that. There were times were they were doing that stuff practically every day at her place for months, and then they'd stay with us for a week and never do it once.
She's living out of state now, and she just gave up her last dog because she was living in an apartment, and couldn't have it there, and we were actually happy, but now it looks like she might have gotten another one. :brickwall:
Her problem according to my mom, and she says it's the same way with my father's entire side of the family, is that she has absolutely no empathy at all. Which is a little ironic because I'm very empathetic, I felt guilty all day a when I spooked a horse a couple months ago on my bike ride.
My mom DMed with her on IG and she did get another dog. She actually said she "couldn't" deal with her other dog and gave him up and got another one. Which just annoys the hell out of my mom and I, a is pet is supposed to be a lifetime commitment, not something you give up the moment it is inconvenient and get a new one.
I understand that there are times where things come up that you have to give up a dog, if something happened my mom I'd probably have to give up our dogs. As much as I adore them, I just don't think I'd be able to handle taking care of them, I can barely take care of myself.
But my sister doesn't seem to make any effort to work with them or train them, she just gives them up the moment she's tired of dealing with them, and then gets another one a little while later.
:mad::censored:

I should say that Amazon is a target and makes it more difficult to also be confident things won't get stolen. As a customer I'm generally satisfied though less and less so of late.

It's a novelty. And I see that attitude a lot and I hate it.

I go to restaurants and sit down. Easy peasy.

Not fancy restaurants, to be sure. (Four times a week I eat at my local bar.)

Good God. I mean, there are times I've made enough money to be able to do that, but that's so much wasted money. You could make a restaurant-quality dish for, eh, five or six bucks' worth of ingredients, as opposed to paying $15-20 (or more) per meal.

But, hey, it's your money, you do you. But still, keep an eye on your cholesterol and sodium levels. (Hint: The secret ingredient that restaurants use to make their food so alluring is tons and tons of salt and butter. Source: I spent the better part of a decade working in restaurant kitchens and bars.)

Not that much. Twenty bucks gets me a burger, chips, beer, and two cookies.

Okay, but doing that, just assuming $20 a meal four times a week, comes to a little under $4,200 in a year.

You can make a burger at home for ... ballparking the cost of a pound of 80 / 20 ground beef, buns, and cheese ... eh, about $3.50 per burger, maybe $4 depending on what meat prices are in Nebraska. Chips are a negligible cost if you buy a large bag of store-brand and do a normal portion, that comes out to about 20 cents per meal. I won't discuss the beer, since I'm a recovering alcoholic and I have no idea what beer prices are anymore. And the cookies? Shit, a giant package of Chips Ahoy costs like $5-6.

And, again, that bar meal is giving you incredible amounts of saturated fat, sodium and cholesterol, plus the sugar from the beer, burger bun, the chips and the cookies. Your heart and pancreas do not appreciate it. Trust me. (I'm missing a third of my pancreas because I was on a too-fat-heavy diet for a while after I split from my ex-wife.)

But that would be offset by the increased risk of me burning down my kitchen.

It's not just that I don't like to cook, I literally can't cook.

Anyone can cook.

My ex-wife once tried making cream of potato soup with instant mashed potato flakes, and when we first met in 2004, I wouldn't have trusted her to make macaroni and cheese out of a box.

By the time we separated after 14 years together, I had taught her quite a bit and there were some dishes that she made that could run circles around my skills.

It's not that you can't cook. It's that you don't want to learn how to cook. But, really, it's honestly quite easy to do basic (and much cheaper, and healthier) meals.

But, again, it's your money and your health. You do you.

Exactly! I am not a good cook at ALL. I can do one or two things, so that's what I do. Take a piece of chicken, dredge it in egg yoke, cover it with bread crumbs and throw in a pan with EV olive oil--great for crispy chicken. Takes only minutes and my husband likes it. Hell, just plain pasta costs a buck or two. You boil water, throw in the pasta, and then you can throw in vegetables or hamburger in the sauce or whatever. It's cheap and easy. You can throw a pork chop on a grill plate on your own stove--drizzle some olive oil over it and sprinkle your favorite spices on it. It's trial and error but you learn what flavors you like; you make it super fast and it's cheap.

I mean, even easier: Boil water, salt it until it tastes like the sea, toss your pasta in.

In a skillet, heat up some olive oil and some minced garlic (you can even used jarred minced garlic). Let that heat a bit and once the pasta is cooked al dente, drain it (reserving a cup or so of the pasta water), then grab a serving of the pasta and put it right into the skillet. Season with some salt and pepper while tossing it. Add small amounts of the reserved pasta water while finishing if needed. Finish with some more pepper, serve into a plate.

Boom, for maybe ... shit, I don't know, $1.90 or so given the ingredient cost, you've made pasta aglio e olio, one of the most classic--and most delicious--traditional Italian dishes known to man. (Before I was diagnosed with diabetes, I'd make this with imitation crabmeat and toss in a healthy dose of Louisiana or Crystal hot sauce, too. Fuckin' carbs.) Have a side salad with that and you've got your macros nailed for one meal.

Entertainment websites that discuss spoilers but pretend like they don't want to spoil you even though that's exactly what they're doing when the spoiler is written out in the URL and the website search result emphasizes the spoiler. Or when they mention how there was a surprising character death but put the actor's photo next to the link.

Click bait media has pretty much ruined entertainment websites and YT news sites for me. Not just because of spoilers but so much is poorly sourced speculation based upon idle rumors. Maybe I am more cynical in my middle age but I find the limited sources to be irritating in the vagueness.

I hate when legitimate entertainment and mainstream news sites put spoilers in their headlines or right at the beginning of articles. Arizona is more or less on West Coast time, and there have been a few times where sites have posted their post episode articles with open spoilers in the headline or right at the beginning of the article before the episode has aired. This has happened to my mom and I with CNN posting who an eliminated character was on The Masked Singer before the episode has even finished airing here, and lot of times they'll even post a picture of the person with after they take the mask off right there on their homepage.
At least EW has the decency to not put the spoiler right in the headline, and uses a picture of them still masked.
It's happened a few times with other sites and shows too.

Yeah, it's pretty awful when you're just scrolling through the news app on your phone, trying to stay caught up with what's going on in the world, and then WHAM! there's a spoiler headline and a spoiler picture for a show you watch. You weren't even specifically looking for entertainment news!

I've heard that the Picard spoilers are coming fast and furious out there right now, and I don't want to take any chances. I guess I'm going to be woefully uninformed about world events for the next week or so! :ouch:
