Things that frustrate us all

I had to quit a trail running group on Facebook because some guy posting a meme with a muscular guy wearing a bra saying “I’m here for the women’s track meet” and then 2/3 of the comments were bigoted anti-trans bullshit.

Why are so many of the people who share my hobby so rednecky?

And why is everyone so all or nothing on trans issues anyway? If people don’t agree with modern interpretations of the concept of gender, why can’t they ever just agree to disagree and still be respectful instead of jumping straight to the “They are just cheating at girls sports/peeping in bathrooms!” hatemongering shit?

80% of the world has forgotten how to respectfully disagree and in these cases it immediately descends into bullying.

After the emotional issues my sibling went through, at the first hint of that kind of bullying I will cut all communication with you.

I agree that people go way too far in both directions. I tend to keep my mouth shut no matter where I am because I have views that are viewed as unacceptable by both the right (I believe people should be able to dress and present themselves however they please, there's nothing at all immoral about not adhering to gender roles) and the left (I have concerns about transgender athletes in women's sports, I'm skeptical about some aspects about the concept of nonbinary gender identity, I don't think transition is the best option for every person with gender dysphoria). I don't think bullying or ridiculing people is ever ok.

We just had a huge snowstorm blow through. Had to get up at 4 AM and shovel snow for 45 minutes before going to work.

And when I got there, I found seven shopping carts stuffed to the brim with returns - things I literally spent MY WHOLE FUCKING SHIFT putting back on the shelves.

(I had yesterday off, but from what I hear, it was an absolutely insane weather panic.)

I respectfully disagree. In my humble opinion and experience it's about 95% of the world.

frustration today: I'm trying to crotchet a cardigan and have already unravelled it 6 times. I did measure every time but it seems I am undergoing phases like the moon. I'm curious whether the cardigan will be finished by next winter, lol :)

Exactly, you can be free to your differing opinion. But there's a difference between raising a question of fairness based on different body structures, and openly accusing 100% of trans athletes of doing it just to cheat. Whether or not there's a fairness issue, you can't reasonably make those kind of assumptions about motives.

Oh, I totally agree. I think there is a fairness issue but I don't think there are any people who are transitioning just to get an edge in sports and claiming that kind of intention is a bad-faith criticism. A situation can be a problem without anyone involved being a bad person or trying to hurt anyone else.

Annoyed with my insurance company at present. They denied my claim for a missing diagnosis code! Long story short, I got a kidney stone two weeks ago and had to be in the hospital to have it removed. Now the insurance is denying the bigger parts of my claim. I haven't received an EOB in the mail yet with why the claim was denied. What do I do to quiet the resulting nerves?

I was in the middle of watching through Parks & Rec and Peacock put it behind Premium subscription with no warning.

No, screw you. If I was considering doing Premium before, I'm not anymore. If I want to watch your shows, I think I might just pay for used DVD sets instead. After that crap, you don't deserve to profit from my watching them anymore.

Take a corona-vacation: cook something from your favourite country, listen to music from there and try to simulate the climate (for example if it's a tropical island, surround yourself with potted plants and take a warm bath or dig your feet in a bucket of warm sand). I'll spend next weekend in Africa :D

I always go to Margarita-ville.

19 degrees F here now with snow on the ground...take me away...to somewhere's where I can stick my feet in the sand.

LOL America and Bavaria always have opposite climates, it seems. :) Cloudy/foggy over here with pleasant +9°C. The forecast promises sun and up to 11°C for the next 2 days.
Atm we have a moderate flood, due to the melting snow, but it's a perfectly average one and not dangerous.

Frustration today: the Ministery of Finances cancelled the customary free afternoon on Carnival. They claim that since there are no public events to attend to, no half-holiday is needed and Carnival will therefore be a perfectly ordinary working day. That sucks royally :(

Bummer. I would think that a half-holiday would be good for morale even if there are no public events to attend.

Insurance companies that drag their feet are aggravating. I've been trying to get them to pay for the maintence/tune up on my wheelchair since October. They are supposed to pay 100% for it, and in the past, the required approval only took four days to get. This time it seemed like after four MONTHS it was never going to happen, and the work REALLY needed doing so on Monday I gave up and paid for the work myself. To add insult to injury, the insurance people called me this morning and told me my request for funds was approved. I'm tempted to take the money and run if for no other reason to reimburse myself for a bill THEY are supposed to be responsible for.

Maybe you could talk with the company that repairs your wheelchair so that they refund you and send the bill to your insurance? It's worth a try.

ack, today feels extremely monday-ish. The day stretches like a bungee-rope and its's only noon yet.

Usually I just give the repair people my insurance card at the repair appointment, and within four days I get a call from the insurance saying that I'm approved. This time when I called them to make the appointment I was told that they needed prior approval from my insurance company, which set off months of buck passing. They've never done that before. I thought things might have been screwy because of the pandemic. Or they could have had somebody manning the phones who was new to the job and didn't know how things worked. I don't know.

Just got a phone call to schedule a medical test. She tells me, "You have to have a Covid test two days before the procedure." I wait. She then says, "Is that okay?" Um, like I have a choice here?!? I finally say, "If those are the rules, those are the rules." I hate the "Is that okay?" when my opinion/answer is irrelevant. Stop asking that.

My work wife quit today. :(

(because of this asshole manager whom everybody hates and who has been written up like a hundred times but CORPORATE WON'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT  :brickwall: )

Plus he bears an uncomfortable resemblance to the lead singer of Midnight Oil.

oh and just in case you were wondering, work spouses are a very real thing. Linky
