Things that frustrate us all

My son has finished his fall semester of virtual high school. His grades are...less than stellar. :sigh: He passed all his classes, which is good, but he could have done so much better with just the slightest effort. So frustrated at his lack of work ethic at the moment. :(
 
I was out shopping yesterday. Everyone had a mask, but one out of every thirty or so had it below the nose.

Below the nose maskers are even worse than non-maskers. Cause they're protecting people equally little as non-maskers but they're getting in the front door.
 
I'm not against fictional shows ignoring COVID, unless they are a show whose thing is playing on current events.

Just because I don't really want reminders of the thing that is most stressing me out in the thing I most do to relieve stress.
 
Facebook needs to stop using algorithms to detect hate speech without any human being ever looking at something that gets flagged.

I made a post on an Onion article that any human being to read it would clearly see as making fun of Trump supporters who spout extreme rhetoric, and it got flagged.

If they're going to use AI that has not mastered understanding of sarcasm and parody, they need to have a human being review every flagged post before taking action. It's just plain absurd.

It's not like I want any show to do Covid, it's just...BB is obviously not social distancing either (everybody is as close to each other as ever).

I mean, I realize this is TV, and there's only so far apart they can get, but...it'd be nice if they were at least TRYING to stay safe.

SVU, for its part, has actively paid attention to the pandemic. Characters are wearing masks and keeping their distance. And it's actually been part of the plot as well.

You mean the actors or the characters? I agree when we're talking about the actors. But I think any actor who's in one of those shows where characters don't always distance is getting frequent testing.

I posted a picture of a wet cardboard box on facebook that had been dumped in the street beause it looked like a human face and innocently a friend commented that it had a Trump appearance because a pillow sticking out the top looked like hair. The post had been on facebook for a few days but within hours of my friend making that comment my facebook account was put under review meaning I couldn't log in again until I had provided a photo of myself. Something that's never happened before and fortunately my current profile picture was of me so sending a different photo of me resulted in my account being un-suspended but that could have easily resulted in my account being deleted for something so trivial. In the past my profile picture has been of Jodie Foster and a mug of coffee. I wonder if it had been then I would have had to send them another photo of Jodie Foster or a mug of coffee from a different angle.

I posted a nationally published political cartoon about how poorly the government responds to white supremacy terrorists and Facebook autoflagged it in under a minute and gave me an account warning. The option to dispute the warning was never made available either. I could either agree with Facebook or disagree with Facebook and that was it.

I just got a notification that because I violated their Community Standards, I can't go live or advertise for 30 days. I don't even know what that means! Also, I can't find this notification again.

The prob is that Artificial Intelligences are programmed by Natural Intelligences and those often lack in the latter half of their job description...

Argh of the day over here: it's my first day back at work after Christmas and it's terribly boring: I'm busy doing backups and mucking out superfluous files. :rolleyes:
On the plus side, there's not a single emergency yet: no tanker collision on the river, no derailed train transporting poison that now filters into the ground water, no major truck accident with diesel spill and no farmer pumping manure into the next spring. I love the lockdown! :adore:
 
The problem is trying to use artificial intelligence for things natural intelligences took decades of cultural immersion to understand and can't explain why they understand it, and making decisions based on it without human review.

There's a house a few blocks from me where they change between a Trump 2020 flag and one with Trump's head on Rambo's body. I sometimes wish that I had a paintball gun.

Well clearly it was a giant Antifa conspiracy to make Trump look bad. Even Kevin Sorbo says so.

It's also easy to be emboldened in your bigotry and corruption when you know there are 74 million people who agree with you.
