Things that frustrate us all

Is that across a wired or non-wired connection?
That’s on the WiFi. I’ve a laptop connected directly to the hub though, and it took a minute to load gmail on it. I haven’t checked the speed on that though.

I’ve gone from having HD content streaming across multiple devices, to having to use mobile data to post on this forum.

You will never have a true representation of upload speeds over a wireless network, we're with Virgin Media, have the maximum speed we can have, 360mbps and on my main PC which is wired into the Hub, it will achieve those speeds (easily) where as my phone, a Samsung Galaxy S9 "barely" achieves a third of that speed and that is when I test it four foot from the Hub.

All running concurrently? That's actually quiet a bit of strain for that speed.

Anyway, if you rang into me when I used to work on a level one helpdesk for an ISP, my first thought is, how long has it been like this, when was the last time you reset/power cycled and if the diagnostic tools said the connect into your home was fully functional, are you or were you being effected by the storm that was effecting large chunks of the UK today.

I’m not tech savvy, the world moved on from the 56k modem I was happy with. But yeah. The kids would have Netflix on upstairs, a streaming movie on down stairs, YouTube videos on tablets, and the wife and I could browse on our phones with no hit to performance and only the most occasional of buffering.

I tried resetting the hub, manually changing channels but with no effect. The streaming does seem to improve after ten PM, and switching off IPhones has made a difference.

Wifi is a shared resource when on a personal network like yours, so switching off devices will do that from the network will allow connectivity, have you tried switching the hub off and on again?

Water added to meat.

I used to think this was a profiteering thing. Adding water to cuts of chicken to increase the weight. Now I think it’s more pragmatic, and that extra water is added to round up the weight in to a standard package weight. Whatever the reason, it makes frying the stuff impossible.

Likewise, marinated chicken pieces have too much water to retain the sauce.

I dumped my ISP eventually due to poor speeds at times it was so bad you could barely run a speed test yet in the early hours of the day i.e. 01:00 I could get close to the maximum rated speed for my line.

By choice or by manipulation? Nobody needed faster speeds or insane amounts of storage to view pretty pictures until 500PPI came along and everybody was told they needed it. (What's wrong with 96PPI or 150PPI when the screen size being under 6 inches makes having 5x the density pointless and most people can't see beyond 150PPI (never mind 500DPI) at the typical distance from the 6" screen (or even 32") to begin with without a magnifying lens?) Then people whined because new the new apps were 2~5x larger, and phones with the rightsized amount of storage were exceedingly expensive. Then the tech news sites that hype up the latest must-have then bitch about "we're running out of speed and bandwidth and space and IP addresses and corn chips - damn you customers!"

Okay, we all know the real reason was to hide dead and stuck pixels - a problem only in the cheapest to-be-dumpsterfied-in-3-years variety to begin with. But if people buy for stability then the company goes under or gets bailouts. But if we fill landfills... and who has money to spend anymore? Sod it, I'm getting a drink and I don't drink. Circular illogic makes me ever so dizzy...

Niantic and Pokemon Go. Since last night I haven't been able to log in at all. I've had it up to here with them.

I am..... :scream:

I hope that I didn't sprain or break something in my right foot. I was stepping up onto a step and my foot twisted a bit... and now it hurts. :(

Now onto ice packs and Max Freeze.

When your favourite chopping board appears to have warped, but it turns out to be an errant bottle cap.

That’s a win, bag that.

When you spend all morning in the hot, sorry, nice sun, on your feet for three hours watching sports day. And walk home, hot and bothered, and find the fridge is adequately stocked with beer. You’ve got the day off work and no call to be driving.

This might not be the right thread.

I've felt for a while we really need a "Little things that make your day" thread.

We did have one a while ago, but it died out pretty quickly, because I guess board members tend to get frustrated more than they get cheered?

Since that one has been dormant for over a year, though, if anyone would like to start a new version, please feel free! :)

I’d start one but I’m waiting for something awesome to kick it off.

Free WiFi at the pool so that I don’t have to watch the kids learn to swim is nice, but I wouldn’t start a thread with it.
