ooooh yes, I know exactly what you mean. But you must not give in to that temptation but learn to switch off, else it'll slowly but surely assimilate all your life, borg-like. I have young colleagues who completely freak out when their smart phones break and they are forced to be offline for the 10 minutes it takes them to get home to an internet-connected PC.
Similarly annoying to MS' update orgies: having to go to work when at home you have a new book and you've just reached a particularly thrilling chapter. Today I had to leave my hero hanging from a gargoyle on a gothic steeple while I'm sitting at my office, writing an expertise about a severe case of water pollution for a trial on Monday. It'd have been completely sufficient to give a verbal statement in the local court but the media made such a fuss yesterday that it has now become an affair of national interest which requires miles of red tape and tons of paper. Freedom of the press can at times be really annoying.
*sigh* back to my paperwork. Have a nice weekend, everyone!
How did we manage in the world before smart-phones and the internet?
Hmm..this is a tough one considering a lot of things and people frustrate me. I would choose people. People frustrate me tons. There is just no way to explain it honestly. The idea of someone living and breathing and being in my air space bothers me a lot. People are just awful to me. I could be minding my own business and I get bothered for no reason. I am reserved and quiet and need time to think and focus on myself, just trying to get through the day so when somebody feels like striking up a conversation, I really just don’t have the energy for it. “Please, just piss off” is a constant thought I’d like to really get out there. Now, don’t get me wrong, there are some acquaintances I really do enjoy but mostly people are awful to me and I can’t use whatever energy I have left on them.
I function like a normal member of society lol I just can’t be botheredWell it is said we live in an extroverted world.
Been there. Also worked fast food. I truly hope I never have to go back to that.Everyone should have to work in a customer service role at some point.
I was a bank teller for 4 years, and did my best to get to know my customers. I knew the names of 2/3rds of the people who walked in the door by sight, and greeted them by name as they came in. Most customers LOVED it! I was very popular with our customers, and it made me feel good. It's also very important for tellers to do things like this, because it discourages robberies.A couple years ago my bank embarked on a new customer service model where they go out of their way to great everyone who walks in. The teller will then engage you in small talk while completing your transaction. Ain't nobody got time for dat! It drives me bonkers. I'm not a small talker. All I need is a brief acknowledgment and then to have my business transacted efficiently so I can get the hell out of there.
I think I would be happiest if I could have human interaction on my own terms.

I think the problem is when the friendliness seems artificial, which I have experienced talking to people on the phone or in chat support. I don't mind a little "I hope you are having a nice day" or something like that, but sometimes it does feel as though it drags on and we are not getting to resolving the issue, so I think I know what you mean.

I can just say that people definitely liked being greeted by name when they walked in the door.Having someone greet you as you enter (except in a place like a Restaurant) seems artificial to me (as a Brit), when I get to the checkout I'm really only interested in the briefest exchange such as Hi, how are you, nice day and anything needed to process the sale.
Flies. They have it pretty lucky I don't have God like powers because I am afraid I would go all Husnok on them all at some point. Not just the flies that bug me and keep landing on my tv. You would not understand the scope of my crime. Not just those few flies but all flies everywhere.

Or the way the buzzing of a stupid mosquito can keep you awake for hours sometimes. I for one just can't sleep because I keep thinking that it could crawl into my ear.
