Well, believe it or not, the original was meant to be a political statement about NeoConservatism and the Reagan administration. The suggestion being that the aliens controlled people through the media and had created a sort of permanent underclass out of the hapless humans who weren't aiding and abetting the "invasion".

The quality wasn't that bad, but the premise was genius. People are so fooled by mindless consumerism that they can't see they are being conditioned and manipulated.

They Live is one of my favorite B-movies. The premise has such potential that I'm happy to see a remake in in motion. I just hope they manage to keep the subversive edge of the original.
