These touch-screen Coke foutains.

I bet Bloomberg hates those machines because some people are probably like "Oooh, I wonder what Orange Coke tastes like??? Or Cherry Sprite???"
I have honestly always wanted to try an Orange Coke ever since I was offered one by a Southern waitress and subsequently disappointed to learn it was Fanta.

When I was a kid we had a soda flavor called "Black Orange" that was like 50/50 cola and orangesoda. Awesome. Very nice. And not made anymore.

Yup, super-cold drinks are stupid. People who live in warm countries know that drinking ice-cold drinks just makes you sweat more.

This makes no sense, but if you say so. And either way, they still taste better. :p

I asked Doctor Google:

Doctor Google said:
After getting a cold drink your body temperature decreases so your heart should beat harder to pump the blood faster in order to maintain the natural body temperature and it increases your metabolism which eventually causes you to sweat more and it makes you feel uncomfortable as your body has to work more.

And you live in warm Tennessee, pffff. :p

I would think this would all depend on the humidity of the area you are in. Afterall sweating is what your body does to cool off and the humidity is low the sweat will evaporate and the convection of this evaporation will cool you off, but if the humidity is high enough to make it more difficult for the sweat to evaporate you'll feel hot.

Maybe we're just smarter here in Iowa/Nebraska?

Maybe. But still being in Iowa/Nebraska would seem to prove otherwise...

-Indy, who has spent far too many hours going back and forth on I-80.

And with that Indy, you have just stumbled upon part of the secret behind Iowa/Nebraska smarts. As natives to the area, if we have to make that 12 hour mind numbing trek, we know to just set the cruise control and spend the hours reading, doing crosswords, or engaging in other mental calisthenics. It helps to keep the brain sharp. I mean lets be real here. The only places you really have to have your wits about you are when you go through Iowa City, Des Moinse, Omaha, and Lincoln. ;) :p

We don't have touchscreen dispensers here (Omaha, NE) either, that I'm aware of.

Well, duh! You're in Omaha. What do you expect?.. Down in my old hometown of Lincoln, the more cultured folk probably even have the touch dispensers at Valentino's and Runza Hut! :p I kid I kid...

We have the dispensers here in Albuquerque at Five Guys and Pei Wei (semi-fast, delicious Asian).. I haven't been to our Fudd's for a while, so I don't know about that. Love me some Fudd's though.. All the veggies you can handle and jalapeno cheese for yer fries!! YUM!!!

which five guys? I was at the only one I know of (by Caliburs) last eek and they had the regular fountains

Wanted to note that I tried an Orange Coke - a real one! - the other day and it's pretty good... albeit pretty much like a blend of Coke and Fanta.

I grew up in South Texas. Everything was a "Coke." You had to specify what flavor (Dr Pepper, Sprite, etc..).

I remember when I first moved down to Texas, people would always look at me funny when I said "pop." Now that I'm back up North, people look at me funny when I use coke as a noun.

I can't win, lol.

I've used these machines at the local Fuddruckers. I usually just get Powerade Fruit Punch with ice, and it tastes fine to me.

Ahhh, Fuddruckers. Man, I miss them.

I found out about them about a year ago. I love their food. They have the best burgers in Massachusetts.

I just moved from Mass. Where is there a Fuddruckers, other than the one at Logan?

They have the touch screen Coke things at the rest stops along the MassPike.

I avoid fast food joints, and the only restaurants I've been in recently were the kind in which your drinks are brought TO you, so I haven't seen these new gadgets. I dislike all this computerization, but I suppose it's inevitable. I'm still one smitten by the charms of a by-gone era....clocks that tick and have faces decorated with stylized Roman numerals, for instance.

I've only been to the ones in Reading and North Andover, but here's the list on their website:

900 Broadway, Rt 1 North
Saugus, MA 01906

550 Turnpike Street, Rt 114
North Andover, MA 01845

50 Walkers Brook Dr.
Reading, MA 01867

436 Broadway St.
Methuen, MA 01844

I love those touch-screen Coke fountains. I discovered a combination that tastes like a virgin Fuzzy Navel.

Considering a virgin Fuzzy Navel is just orange juice and soda water, I don't think finding a soft drink that mimics that flavor would be terribly difficult.

The one near the new theater in Rio Rancho at Unser and Southern.

I was in the Atlanta airport today and they had touchscreen fountains. Many of those in line had no idea how to use them.

Where I live (Dallas-Fort Worth), I've seen touchscreen fountains in movie theaters and also our local Pei Wei locations - I love the great selection but there do seem to be some issues getting the amount of carbonation right - but no worse than it's been in a lot of self-serve fountains in most fast-food joints for years.

Good fast-food burgers? Whataburger is pretty dang awesome.
