These touch-screen Coke foutains.

But I still think In-N-Out is the best damn burger in the state.

I don't know what it is about In-N-Out. Maybe its the fact that I can only get a hold of one every few years, but DaaayUm those things are good. Keep in mind, I'm in Iowa and we have access to some of the best beef in the country, but there is just something about In-N-Out burgers.

We don't have touchscreen dispensers here (Omaha, NE) either, that I'm aware of.

MLB, we're in the middle of fly-over-country. We'll probably see those things starting to show up around the turn of the decade. ;)

Well, duh! You're in Omaha. What do you expect?.. Down in my old hometown of Lincoln, the more cultured folk probably even have the touch dispensers at Valentino's and Runza Hut! :p I kid I kid...

We have the dispensers here in Albuquerque at Five Guys and Pei Wei (semi-fast, delicious Asian).. I haven't been to our Fudd's for a while, so I don't know about that. Love me some Fudd's though.. All the veggies you can handle and jalapeno cheese for yer fries!! YUM!!!

I got to try out one of these machines a couple years ago at the Coke museum in Atlanta. It's interesting technology, but looking the concentrated syrup cartridges these things use, it's no wonder the beverages coming out of them don't taste that great.

It's a good thing we don't have touch screen burger vendors. I suspect those would fall far short.

Heh, the food in a lot of casual dining restaurants isn't too far off from that:

1. Remove package from freezer.
2. Microwave.
3. Serve.

Pretty sure a robot could handle that--and you wouldn't have to give it a tip!

I'm already composing the letter to Amazon to get on this burger bot idea. But you know what happens when you don't tip the robots ...

Since we are having the burger convo again, I'll say that Five Guys and Portillo's are my favorite chains. I love burgers but I'm trying to make better choices so I've taken to making my own patties and freezing them at home, so we can defrost and grill them whenever I feel like having a burger. :)

Amazing what sort of things you learn about on this board. I don't drink soft drinks but even so, I don't think I've seen these in the UK. Maybe they're here. Mind you, I'm not sure I've seen any self-service (non-can) soft drink machine outside of an institutional cafeteria like in a hospital or office building.

The description makes the machine sound vaguely Skinner box-esque.

Quality? Fuddrucker's? Don't know about where you live however, over here even Carl's Jr (Hardee's) is of noticeably better quality than the garbage they serve at Fuddrucker's.

The best burger here (by far) is at The Chuckbox with a close number two at DeLux. Best non local restaurants for burgers are In&Out and Fatburger.

I agree with you wholeheartedly on The Chuckbox (good) and Fuddrucker's (bad).

I've never been to DeLux, but I have to differ with you on In&Out and Fatburger. I think Five Guys, Culver's, and Smashburger are all better than those.

Have you never eaten fast food, like, ever?

Sure, but the person behind the counter does the job of filling your drink for you. You don't do it yourself here. At least, I don't think I've ever been in a place that makes you do it yourself.

I prefer a milkshake anyway. Gotta get my dose of cellulose and milk gloop.

I tried Five Guys once and was really disappointed. The Bugers weren't bad, but the Fries were pretty much in a lake of grease. They give you so much and they put it in a bag and the bag is pretty much soaked once you start eating them. I prefer In 'N Out.

It's not so much that they make us do it ourselves. It just makes things easier when it comes time to get refills. Plus, you can play around and mix things together!

Yeah. And I want my drink without ice, dammit! Hate it when I get a glass where over 50% of the volume is ice. I paid for a drink, not ice, fuckers!

Runza has the best fries.

It's been so long since I've been there (since 1981), I don't even recall them having fries..

We used to go to Runza for class field trips and got to make our own.

After we moved to New Mexico, my mom would treat us every once in a while and make a batch of runzas.

Nothing better than buying a Runza on the way into Memorial Stadium on a Saturday during football season..

I think Subway is the only place I know in this country that offers refills.

And for the record: I always tell em to not put ice into my drink. :p

I like being able to make my own drink because I like extra ice. Flat, watered down pop. Yum.

I've run into various places in the US where you can say flat out "no ice, please" and they will still load me up with ice.
