These touch-screen Coke foutains.

One of these days I will need to try these In-N-Out burgers, but the closest one to me appears to be several lightyears away.

If you're talking places to go in my own home city, I prefer Smash Burger.

Although the best burger I have ever personally eaten anywhere in the country is at Oliver's Bar and Grill (it may have since changed names since I was there last, that happens a lot), in Greenwich Village in NYC.

With a runner-up: Keith's Grill at Citi Field

Well, I don't find them difficult to use either but I've seen plenty of people who do struggle with them. Usually older people.

So help them.

Fuddruckers is okay. I never got the fuss.

The big benefit of Fuddruckers is the freshness and quality of the meat and the bread. It's possible that the meat you normally eat is a lot closer to its source, so you wouldn't see as much of an improvement at Fuddruckers.

Quality? Fuddrucker's? Don't know about where you live however, over here even Carl's Jr (Hardee's) is of noticeably better quality than the garbage they serve at Fuddrucker's.

The best burger here (by far) is at The Chuckbox with a close number two at DeLux. Best non local restaurants for burgers are In&Out and Fatburger.

I think the closest ones to you are either somewhere in Utah or here (Phoenix). In any case, you could always use this as a convenient excuse for a trip to Vegas (they have one about a half mile from the Excalibur, the Rio, and the Palms).

As for the touch screen soda fountains, they have a few here and there that I have seen. While I cannot comment on whether or not they are difficult for the older generation, they are the future and the older people will have to learn how to deal with them. I personally like them as they give you the ability to custom make your soft drink.

Fuddruckers is downright unpleasant. There's a new place here, Stage Burger, that does a lot of what Fudd's tries to do but does it well.

I like the new machines. They give you more of a selection and while it takes some time to get used to, I still like the larger selection. I was introduced to it at a 5 Guys and then I saw it at a movie theater. They're pretty nice.

There's only one Hardee's around here and, honestly, I'm not even sure it's still there. And it's fast food. Sure it's good but it's still fast food. Fuddruckers was a made, freshly cooked, real hamburger patty. With real cheese and mmmmm. Damn it was good stuff.

I've used the new machines at a couple of places, and every time the drink seems bitter to me, like maybe there's too much carbonated water. That said, I love the concept. Hopefully one of these days I'll eat somewhere that has it calibrated correctly.

As for watching older people struggle with technology we find basic, I'm always reminded of this Douglas Adams quote:

"Anything that is in the world when you’re born is normal and ordinary and is just a natural part of the way the world works. Anything that’s invented between when you’re fifteen and thirty- five is new and exciting and revolutionary and you can probably get a career in it. Anything invented after you’re thirty-five is against the natural order of things."

Years from now, I guess we'll be the ones unable to figure out things our grandkids find ridiculously simple.

I should note that none of the other burger joints mentioned in this thread are located anywhere in Massachusetts. In fact, most of them aren't even located anywhere along the eastern seaboard.

I'm in South Carolina and we have Fuddrucker's, Five Guys, Hardee's (Carl Jr) and even Firehouse Subs - but I haven't seen the touch-screen drink dispensers though...

It's a good thing we don't have touch screen burger vendors. I suspect those would fall far short.

Heh, the food in a lot of casual dining restaurants isn't too far off from that:

1. Remove package from freezer.
2. Microwave.
3. Serve.

Pretty sure a robot could handle that--and you wouldn't have to give it a tip!

So far I've only seen these machines in 7-11 but I rarely go out to eat so I may have missed seeing them somewhere else. They're pretty easy to use.

The first (and only) time I had the pleasure of using one of these was a few weeks ago at my local Burger King. I normally don't eat there, but I was on my way out of town and needed a quick meal.

I really like the idea of these and hope to see them pop up more, even if I don't drink soda as much as I once did.

But some of them dispense tea and lemonade and stuff!

I can get down with that.

First time I encountered one was in May, on my way to Albany. I don't think they have them in Canada, aside from maybe Toronto, but certainly not out my way. So, it was rather a surprise when I first saw one when we stopped at Five Guys. I'm pretty good with technology, but I honestly found it overwhelming. I went to select Diet Sprite as my base, but for some reason, when it came time to select my flavouring, it obviously glitched as it didn't even give me time to select it before blue syrup started flowing. Had to go get some help from one of the workers. It really threw me for a loop and I was really confused.

I thought that the quality at the three different Fuddruckers out here I've been to was quite good. Especially the freshly made bread, which is really what makes the burger taste so great. I mean, the bakery is literally right there in the restaurant (at least in two of the ones I've been to) and you can watch them make it fresh and then take some home for yourself. I don't know exactly where the meat comes from, but being that it is cooked to order, it is already a vast improvement over fast food burgers.

I also love that there is a condiment bar instead of having to ask at the counter for them to leave certain things off or put certain things on your burger.

I stopped going to Fuddruckers after one of the staff members used a spray bottle cleaning a nearby table and the mist drifted onto my food.

The pepper shaker tops that had holes smaller than the pepper grains didn't contribute to my enthusiasm for the place either.
