According to a very good site there is...

Starfleet Prototype
----- The Journal of Innovative Design and Ideas - Variant 2

Other than the Conquest Class what other designs are in this and how much is different from the Normal copy and how does one know from the outside if they have Variant 2 is there even a Variant 1?

The main difference between the two editions of Starfleet Prototype is that the ships featured originally in Mastercom's Ships of the Star Fleet have been renamed. Also, the drawings of those ships have been modified as not to appear exaclty as they did in SotSF.

I do not recall any other significant changes from one to the other.

Ahh ok i was hoping the covers would be different :)

I have both variants of the Starfleet Prototype journals, will re-read and post details later today. :bolian:

You sir are a lucky individual. I would love to have a copy of the revised edition. To add to my collection I do have the first Edition. :)

Agreed and i too would like to red this version and the first Blue color cover copy of Starfleet Dynamics as i have the Gold on Black version at home :)

I liked how in the back of Starfleet Dynamics they had a picture of the "Starfleet officers" who contributed to the manual in a group picture with most wearing their movie era uniforms.

Agreed :) adds a bit of realism to the book :D

That was a nice touch wasn't it :) I should add that
to my TreknoGraphx Technical Data packages. When I
Get around to creating some revised versions.

I have scanned both versions onto one of my hard-drives. I would like to know if it is possible to give it (free of charge) to those who are interested. Or would this be frowned upon?
I am fairly new here and dont wish to upset anyone or do anything illegal. Hopefully one of the mods on here can point me in the right direction. :bolian:

IIRC, all info on the title page such as copyright is set in the future and fictional. And most of the art inside is kinda stolen from Mastercom.

That kinda got me in hot water when I did my datasheets for my USS Venture, which had some parts based on the Menhagha. I looked all over Prototypes for some copyright info to give credit on the datasheets, but didn't find any. After I sold a couple, Michael Morisette contacted me and pointed out, a bit peeved, that he'd designed the ship. I didbn't know at the time that Prototypes was a compilation of other people's stuff.

I had a boss at my first job find a copy of the even older "line officer requirements" "line officer requirements - supplement" and "staff officer requirements" manuals that served as the prototype for dynamics at a library used book sale. Knowing my love for trek, he picked them up for me... For five bucks.

That was an awesome day to go to work.

Cool Boss :)

Re: OP's query, and subsequent clarifications, the original Starfleet Prototype had these designs (but they appeared in older publications by MDC):
Ascension-class Dreadnaught NCC-2520
Belknap-class Cruiser NCC-2501 (an upgrade from the Decatur-class Cruiser NCC-2500)
Athabaska-class Cruiser NCC-2560

And the revised edition changed them to these corresponding analogues:
Conquest-class Dreadnaught NCC-2589
Dahlgren-class Cruiser NCC-2567
Valor-class Exploratory Cruiser NCC-2830

The most noticeable differences between the pairs of designs include some "slanting" of the neck area, and some stretching of the shroud around the photorp launchers. Some other minor details were changed to imply a "new" sub-class with, of course, the obligatory name and registry changes, but the overall layout of the spaceframe and components remains largely identical.
