There are two versions of Win7 RC1 x86 out there...

Not to start a new thread on my ongoing issues regarding my Windows 7 RC1 install but I've discovered what the problem is - I downloaded a different "version".

I use quote marks as I'm not sure how to describe it. The version I downloaded, when you first put the disk in had a square box-style status bar, whereas the correct version (which my boss downloaded independently of me) has the solid bar as seen in Vista et al.

Also, when you get to the loading screen, the correct version has the proper 'flying dots to form the Windows logo' whereas the incorrect version uses the old XP-esque 'Knight Rider' style loading bar.

The install is running beside me on my Mac and seems happy as Larry. If anyone else notices this please pass this on.

I guess it wouldn't be an easy one to spot unless you waste 5GB and download two versions!

Where did you get yours? I got mine from the official Microsoft download site.

We got both of ours from the Microsoft site too.

Can't explain it.

what were the files names for iso images you do downloaded?

Build 7100 is the build number for the correct version and the only different files are the 32 and 64bit versions then broken down into the different languages.

Did you download them for a general microsoft website or through something like a Technet or MSDN subscription?

I got mine from the Microsoft site:
7100.0.090421-1700_x86fre_client_en-us_retail_ultimate-grc1culfrer_en_dvd.iso

He got his from the Technet site as he has an account (I don't have the iso on hand, will try and find out from him).

I haven't looked but it's possible the Beta 1 is up on technet and that was downloaded by mistake.

No, the Technet version was the correct version! The one I got from Microsoft was bung.

which is funny because the version I got from the public site works find - both the 32 and 64bit versions and my 32bit version ISO file matches the name and I downloaded the on the first day they went up (first file I started downloading about 2 minute after they become available).
