Awkwardly babbling random things when you meet someone new is in fact being terrible with new people.

Yet nearly everyone loves her when they meet her.
And Discovery has flamethrowers attached to it's bridge consoles.
And this conversation is getting tiresome.
I know people like Tilly in real life and they have plenty of friends.
Same. Someday the fakeness of modern society will fade.
Po was a stowaway with a personal camouflage ability who almost literally dropped out of the ceiling in the mess hall. The fact that Season 1/2 Era Tilly was that firm and communicative with an alien stranger whose species she'd never before met spoke volumes for how she muddled her way through the whole encounter with positive results.
It's so liars pants will actually catch fire.
The ability to eventually make friends with people doesn't mean someone is good with meeting new people.
No, they're also good at meeting new people. You have to meet people before you can make friends lol
Then they aren't like Tilly.
They're just like her.
Just because you don't like how she acts, doesn't mean everyone dislikes how she acts. I'd love to be her friend.
Honesty charming better than fake sauveness.
At least Tilly has the excuse of being a Cadet and then a junior officer in her twenties. Reg Barclay had more disruptive behavior and troubling at that with his holoaddiction and other issues that affected relationships with fellow Starfleet officers and he was in his thirties and even older.
Tilly makes great first impressions, bonding with Po from their first encounter, and building on her first few interactions with Michael to create meaningful friendships. Or even just how she endeared herself to Pike when they first met, everyone on the series likes her.
She’s likable, and has had a vocal fanbase from her first appearance, and no one is going to convince those of us that do like her that we’re somehow wrong for doing so with straw man arguments about flame thrower set effects.

My job is meeting new people. I'm still awkward at it. Don't know if that will ever change. My job is to be honest, genuine, and accepting. So, I am awkward. It works for me.
And Bashir was just a dick. (He got better).
In retrospect he was probably overcompensating for hiding his genetic engineering but yeah, his obnoxious flirtation and golly-shucks wonderment at life on the frontier of explored space was kinda...dickish.
