Spoilers Theory on the USS Discovery propulsion

Some theories before episode 3 hits on the nature of the USS Discovery and the importance of exotic fungus:

If you don't wish to watch the video (it's not too long) then here are the two main theories:
1. The mycelial network allows ships to travel from one point to another outside of regular space
2. The USS Discovery's rings actually rotate
And a bonus theory 3. Gabriel = Garth

You beat me to it, I was just about to post this ;)

Space Fungus must play some role in the series

I really hope this is completely wrong. I'm literally at a loss of words to describe how idiotic the idea of warping through mushroom dimension is.

In all my years, I've heard only the following as nicknames for Gabriel: Gabe, Gaby, and Gil. I can't figure out a suitable contortion of Gabriel to wind up at Garth short of a wild stab in the dark to make a connection that isn't there.

We could always have Saru get drunk and call him "Cap'n Gabeezy".

As for the inner 'doughnut' of the primary hull rotating... huh? Does that mean you have to evacuate an entire section of the ship just to hit Chanterelle speed? Or do you leave them in there while the primary hull plays space Twister?

Is Garth of Izar actually his name though? I thought it was a title he got after.

All I've ever heard is that his name is Garth (guessing that's his last name, and in "Captain Garth" as Kirk addressed him) and he's an Izarian. Past that, he could have grown up Tim of East Jersey for all I know.

Not buying the Gabriel is Garth angle at all.

Me neither, I was just wondering. And *SPOILER WARNING BELOW*

but based off of a recent interview Isaacs said Lorca is like a hero and trying to help Burnham redeem herself. Now....that being said, in MANY interviews when he's asked how he plays such compelling bad guys hes said is that he plays them in the mindset that every bad guy is there hero of their story and GENUINLY believes they are correct and doing the right thing. So who knows.

That's the oldest, best advice for anyone creating a villain character, whether as an actor or writer. I'm glad he's taken it to heart.

I actually think this is a thing...

The Discovery has a (sigh) astromycologist aboard to (deep stress sigh) take advantage of (ugh) mushroom-based propulsion.

I can't spoil why, but I'm a scientist with a weird field of study which is astromycology and that has some interesting applications in science on Star Trek. I'm allowed to say that, so yes, there are some new things explored that are because of space fungus and mushrooms and mycelium.

it appears that somehow space mushrooms will be able to be utilized in some unique way in order to create technology we have not previously seen in Star Trek.

I can't even begin to understand how this concept ever made it into the show.

It's just... FREAKING SPACE-SHROOM PROPULSION?!?
