Theme Music Vote

Do You Like the Theme Music?

The theme music seems reasonable enough. Nothing grabbed me as being overwhelmingly awesome...but it didn't make me recoil in terror either. I like the callbacks to the TOS theme. I'm quite certain it will grow on me.

Then there's Archer's Theme, which was supposed to be the opening theme music for Enterprise, but the network insisted on FOTH. So it was used for the closing theme instead. And I thought it was the most boring, listless piece ever.

I assumed that if Archer's Theme had actually been used as an opening theme, it would have been different than the version that played over the end credits, the way the opening DS9 theme was different from the closing.

Is this the whole thing? The whole piece sounds like it's building up to something great and instead it goes with the Alexander Courage theme which feels like it doesn't fit. I love all the original parts and even the unoriginal part at the beginning is done very well, but the end just doesn't fit at all.

I think the visuals can affect my final opinion of the music but at the moment I quite like it. The only problem i have is I wish they hadn't ended it with the fanfare. The music flows nicely and then builds up to the fanfare and when thinking back, its the main bit you remember. It needs its own musical identity. But as I say, my opinion might change when I see the visuals.

I'm going to reserve judgment until I hear it in the context of the actual show. What I've heard though, it's hard to pick out a memorable theme. But at the same time, it at least sounds pleasant. So I'm not ready to vote down. Someone mentioned something about how it sounds like it's going to build up to something great. That's sort of how I felt about the Star Trek '09 theme. The "theme" sounds like it's getting ready to build up to a theme, but then it doesn't. And I hated that the first time I saw the film in the theater. Then I watched it again and liked the music. Then I purchased the soundtrack and wore out the CD. So it's very possible that I could say "it's awful" right now, then in a few months I'll be listening to it on repeat. I'm weird like that.

Quick update, positive votes on my two polls now number well over 250 :) An even bigger consensus

Here's the whole 92 secs set to promo clips

Anthony Rapp has seen the whole credit sequence and tells us it's fantastic.

...My vote is yes.

It works very, very well with dialog overlaid over the whole thing like that, as the music is not distinctive enough to distract from the speech. Perhaps they will do something similar.

I really like what we've heard so far. It's the most appealing thing that has come out about the show so far.

I'm neither here nor there.

Frankly, like most TV shows I watch on Netflix, I'll be pressing the "Skip Intro" button after the pilot.

The only show whose title sequence I watch every week is Game of Thrones and, as much a I love the music, I only do so to find out where scenes will be set each week.

Hugo - there nor here

Listening to it again...it feels like half a theme tune. Like listening to the underlaying structures on a goldsmith theme and never actually getting the melody on top. Like the intro to Voyager on loop, never hitting the actual tune. It's nice...but it's the bun, where's the burger? Y'know.

Exactly...it's like this slow build up, and then.....NOTHING.

Love to see that narration over the opening Courage fanfare
