The Worst Aliens

The Star Trek franchise has introduced us to many non-terrestrial species. Some of them were mainstays, others only briefly glimpsed. Some were ethereal beings beyond human comprehension, others looked like us but with bumpy foreheads.

In this thread, let us nominate what we think are the worst species design to appear on any of the series.

My pick: The Banea from Ex Post Facto

These are supposed to be avian in their evolution, but instead they just look like eccentric humans wearing feathery balaclavas. It doesn't help either that they have lips, teeth and nipples. They also keep pet dogs that are not even remotely alien in appearance.

The fish things that eat the food on TNG. can't remember their name but they were hilariously bad

The Malons. Never liked that waste nonesense.

Some aliens were uninteresting or boring in TNG and received a great makeover. When they reappeared in DS9, they were great. The Trill and the Cardassians for instance.

^ :adore:. They served an eco-plot purpose but never felt anything for them other than being predictable rubber-faced alien-of-the-week. The Hierarchy run a very close second. VOY sadly had some of the worst aliens as the premise of the show inevitably meant they were trying to come up with new, interesting aliens-of-the-week in the writers room, which probably explains why they ended up falling back on the Borg. But - there were a few gems in there; the Vaadwaur, Kobali and others .

Q??!?!?

Those aliens in Voyager I think who evolved on earth from/with the dinosaurs, that we somehow never found any trace of.

Not only that but they evolved from cold blooded dinosaurs, which we've also never found any trace of.

I was never pleased when the alien species of the week looked completely human. At least slap a bumpy forehead or nose on it for gawd's sake!

"most of the aliens seen in Voyager" ugh.. at leaset 80% were crap.
Kaizon? crap, whole shed full of it..
Hirogen? crap (could have been better)
Krinem? good, need better make up
Malon? Utter crap
Talaxian? neutral.. had his moments
Vaaduar? Good,
Vidiaans? Crap

Most of the alien of the week were poor to middling..

Yeah, the majority of the Voyager aliens.
Plus, from DS9, the Dosi from "Rules of Acquisition", and that guy that wanted to kill Quark, with the tube of skin connecting his nose and chin, covering his mouth. Really, what evolutionary purpose did that serve?

Even worse are the Tak Tak, with a huge arch of bone down the middle of the face.

Then you have the Ilari, with extra nostrils that bleed into their eyes.

I loved Danara Pel, though. She was great, even if I'm not fond of the Vidiians either.

When the producers had spent so much money on the VOY pilot (I believe the most spent on any Trek episode), that the first new alien species to appear outside of the Kazon and Ocampa were just 100% human with Tommy Bahama shirts, those guys from Time and Again.

The worst species are humans. Some are good, some are bad, some are tall, some even have beards. There's no consistency and their appearance and actions vary wildly by individual. And for such a confusing and inconsistent race, every series uses them way too much. Like, in every season and movie, really.

Pilots are always expensive, but it doesn't help when your first lead actress drops out after two days and the second one has to reshoot all her location scenes because of her hair.

In Trek TOS we saw other humanoid races that looked very much like us and that continued into TNGs first season but after that initial series every similar human species had to have a lump on their head, a mole on their temple or six fingers or a long nose that was connected to their lip! Some had purple flecks in their skin!! I much preferred the original human look for a race presented as being somewhat akin to ours! :ack:
