If Obama is a failure, other potential heavy-hitters will smell blood in the water and enter the Republican primaries - people with the broader appeal necessary to carry enough states to win. Electorally, Palin demonstrated very limited effectiveness during the 2008 campaign and that's true no matter how many people painted her name on their chests during rallies or <3 her on Facebook.
Eight years and some real hard work, and Palin could be a serious contender in 2016. The only way she gets the nomination in 2012 is if no one else wants it and she's a sacrificial candidate.
