How do you rate The Woman Who Fell to Earth?

Costume for a "kiss-agram" type service.

However, Bernard Cribbins played a constable in the second Peter Cushing movie, tangent as that may be.

He was awesome in the Cushing film. It’s in many ways the superior version of the serial.

Is there shame or judgement here?

I rated it "Good". Its easily the second worst 1st new Doctor episode of NuWho after 10's first episode, but its not a terrible episode overall. I mean, it was a bit boring, they dragged the regeneration sickness out too long, all the companions are bland and boring, and the damn TARDIS better be in The Doctor's possession by the end of episode 2 at the latest, but overall it was ok. A middle of the road ok, but still ok.

Whitaker was fine as The Doctor, especially in the few minutes after they stopped the stupid "oh, what is my name" bullshit. The companions...are Martha. Not in the "in love with The Doctor" way, but in the "Extremely boring and forgettable" way. I don't give a shit about any of them, and that won't be changing (wasting all of the beginning of the episode on the doofuses was a really stupid decision, and who gives a fuck about an idiot trying to learn to ride a bike 20 years past the age he should have learned). But, that still makes them better then Clara, so there's that.

Her costume is garbage and her screwdriver easily the worst design for the device in the franchise's history, but she still dresses better then series 9 "Lazy Saturday morning" era Capaldi, and at least the stupid sunglasses are gone. Overall I'm not particularly hyped for the rest of the season, but I'm not feeling bad about it either. It could get good or become mediocre, I'll have to see it to find out.

Funny. I distinctly remember you announcing you‘d only watch the second episode as the season opener wouldn’t be real Doctor Who.
I must have missed the actual premier cause you watched this one. :shifty:

Personally, I liked Jodie a lot.
Her friends seemed mostly like (very good) guest stars of the week so far.
Curious to see them develop and gain proper companion status.
I‘d like to hear a clear version of the Doctor‘s hero theme when she built her screwdriver.

I just realized that starting next week, Doctor Who and Supergirl will be in the same Sunday night time slot in the US. I hate having to wait for either one!

Fitting, though, in a way -- they're both about heroic blonde alien women who fell out of the sky, like to wear draped garments with blue tops, and are more team-oriented than their male predecessors.

More team oriented? You must have missed the Unit years, the early hartnell years and the Davison years. Singular passengers in the Tardis aren’t really a thing until Baker The First, and then the norm after say Planet of Fire onwards.

Did I here the Doctor say if they stick with her they'd get some answers?

Since when does the Doctor give answers or answer questions? :)

Since she worked as a university professor for several decades? Kind of a job requirement, you know.

I like the fact that characters are actually dying in the showrunner's episodes again, which is a welcome breath of fresh air of seven years of Moffat's "Everyone Lives! Just this once, Everyone Lives! For the tenth time!" routine.

You just know if this was a Moffat script, Ryan's nan would have been resurrected.

It's not death that's the problem, don't get me wrong. My son has seen movies where people die, we've talked about people dying. It's the image of the villain and the tension of the episode itself, that I think would be to much for my 6 year old.

Daleks are scary, yes, but, their design is sorta benign... They are scary, but, not frightening, if that makes sense. A face covered in the teeth of your victims, that might be a little to much for a six year old. But, YMMV.

The Doctor's always given plenty of answers and lectures about all sorts of things, just usually not about himself. Although sometimes the Doctor has been more open about personal things than at others (see "The Tomb of the Cybermen").

I voted good...it was a nice introduction to the new doctors and companions (uh...its "friends" now..isn´t it?). Story could have been a little bit tighter, most of the additional running time was used for the characters, which is understandable. If this episode is any indication, than the overall tone is going to be more upbeat and happy and much less dark as compared to Capaldi...a change I really welcome. The 13th comes across as a mix of 10 and 11, which is great...but I hope she won´t do 10ths "bursts of darkness and cruelity"...(I`m talking about you "Family of blood"). It´s a shame that Grace had to die..I would have loved her as companion..Graham seems so...bland...for now. But I guess that will be his character arc.

What do you think will the character arcs of the companions be? My guess:

Graham - will become more outgoing, no clue what else..they need to find something to do with him. He´s not really working for me now, he seems much to "blank".
Ryan and Yaz - will become a pair obviously, I predict an overall development similar to Amy and Rory. But "inverted"...Ryan seems to be set up as the more open, excitable one and Yaz more like the sceptic.

She was talking about the whole alien situation they were in, because that's what the Doctor was trying to do so she could stop it. Remember they were asking about the alien and what it was doing.

Thought it was a pretty "meh" episode. Though I guess it has been a while since everyone was new and I had a connection to gang to pull me along. The bad guy had a bit of bite I guess, but he got a long in the tooth quite quickly. Not going to lie, that put a smile on my face. I'll stop now.

Don't have any issues with the new Doc and friends, though I thought that they were really pushing it to make me believe both comps are just 19...though I can't remember if they said Yas was also the same age as Ryan or if just went to the same school. Took me a while but I finally recognised who gramps was: the host of the UK The Chase. Strangely if every Chaser was to also make an appearance in the show I'd be fine with that.

The list of appearing soon at the end is weird. I think I only recognised 3: Alan, Lee and Nolan. Were the others all pretty well known as well in the UK?
