How do you rate The Woman Who Fell to Earth?

A couple of people now have remarked that the violence was a bit graphic, but this is the same show that had a man's skull crushed by a Dalek sucker, whirling blades chopping people up in Cyber-factories....

One thinks the memory lies.
 
The most graphic thing here was the makeup with all the teeth stuck in Tim Shaw's face. Otherwise, all we saw was his glowing hand touching a victim's head, then a shot of him kneeling over the unseen body to do something to it. The specifics of the violence were described in dialogue, not shown.

Yeah. I haven’t seen it yet, but knew about villain, so did t even bother attempting to watch it with my less than ten year old. Don’t get me wrong...Who has its scary moments, I had recurring nightmares about Tractators when I was about three, but something about the level of realism in FX these days in addition to the direction they head, pushes it past where it should be. Plus there’s a difference between random space colonist number seven copping it, and someone with whom a little one could draw a parallel in their own life. Though Tegan didn’t get off lightly there I suppose. It’s a bit of a jump from Hey Dougie to Who I grant you, but that’s all the more reason to think these things through a little. It was my bug bear with the Capaldi era too. I once joked that that the end of The Big Bang was as fine an ending for Who as you could get, I just didn’t realise I was in danger of wishing it had been. XD
Still. IPlayer has it. Have been spoilered already. Will get round to it at some point.

In the era of people getting in trouble for what they say more than ever, I still think implication and dialogue looked at carefully, in terms of audience suitability. No?

I like the fact that characters are actually dying in the showrunner's episodes again, which is a welcome breath of fresh air of seven years of Moffat's "Everyone Lives! Just this once, Everyone Lives! For the tenth time!" routine.

You just know if this was a Moffat script, Ryan's nan would have been resurrected.
 
How old are the kids who watch from "behind the sofas" meant to be? 12? 8? 4?

My 6 year old isn't allowed to watch MCU (almost entirely 12). Lego batman is fine though. May start him on Sarah Jane adventures, but I don't think he's old enough for Who though.

At least one kid in his class has watched deadpool, and went to cinema with an aunt to watch Infinity war. Call me old fashioned but while I can see some 10 year olds can handle 12As, there's a big difference between 6 and 12.

There's not much family viewing for 5-10 from what I can see. We all watch Thunderbirds, and can still get him interested in Go Jetters - CBeebies has been great for the last few years, but time moves on. Other than he-man on netflix I'm at a loss. Fortunatly he prefers to read than watch TV or do ipads, so it's not a major problem.
 
They stream everything you don't let them watch after you go to sleep.

Turn the router off tonight, you'll have to share breakfast tomorrow with some furious children, who cannot say why they are furious.
 
You know I was trying to think what the alien looked like and I think it just came to me. It looked like the Drakh from Babylon 5 and Crusade. It was pretty sinister looking.
 
Really enjoyed this episode. I thought Jodie Whittaker was fantastic, very likeable and fun. Liked the companions a lot and that one of them, Yasmin, is a cop. Not something we've seen from a companion before and it brings a whole unique skillset and life experience into the Tardis. The episode looked very cinematic. It was a low stakes affair but I like those kinds of stories sometimes.

This episode didn't reinvent the wheel but was a welcome breath of fresh air for Doctor Who.

I was watching clips of Eleventh hour last night because I don't remember that episode and was Amy a cop or was she just in disguise.
 
I rated it Good. Some aspects I really liked (Jodie's portrayal of the Doctor), and some were just meh.

Ok. Amy didn't seem like the cop type. I'm hoping Yaz does bring some of that cop flaire to the role, even if she was just "there" in the premiere episode.

Slightly less tangential: Gwen Cooper was a cop before joining Torchwood.

And Sara Kingdom was a Space Security Agent, which I guess is sort of a cop.

Ironic that there's there's never been a proper police presence in the police box before. I wonder what Yaz will think of the TARDIS when she sees it.
 
I thought it was pretty good. It did feel a bit more like a classic episode then the recent Moffat stuff, which I found quite welcoming. I hope that the rets of the series will be about finding the TARDIS and just sorta hitchhiking around in space (literally :D), I'm sure that'd be a lot of fun to watch.

Erm.
Disguise.
Let’s go with disguise.
A..traditional..British...disguise wearing...profession....yes.
Lots of characters introduced in a similar fashion in very traditional British programs.
Disguise.
