I'm amazed that, for these movies, Marvel ones especially regardless of studio, people still get up and start to leave the second the credits start. Hellooooo, is this your first Marvel movie?
What was funny in my first showing though was that 90% of the people stayed in their seats. A small group coming down the stairs said amongst themselves "Why is everyone still sitting down?" About that time the sequence started. One goes, "Guess that's why."
That's why those post credit scenes annoy me. Everyone and his dog knows that two thirds of the audience walk out. Just put that scene at the end of the film and be done with it. What is the purpose of post credit scenes? Subliminal advertisement messages in the end credits?
The way they are used in these films seems to largely be an addendum to the film.
Either directly or indirectly tied to the story you saw but the credits is a literal way to put some distance from that story and tease or lead into something else.
In this case we know 2yrs has passed, 3 since the event of X3 and Magneto is back and Charles is as well.
Some movies, like Hangover, when they show the photos is to keep you "in" the film. Like the characters you're looking once and deleting(in your case leaving the theater).
Keep in mind movie trailers used to be shown at the end of the credits as well. These stinger scenes for some movies is in a way the updating of that concept I feel.

I think it's more of a "treat" to those people who sit through the credits to pay some... "respect" (?) for everyone who worked on the movie.
Sorry if it's been mentioned, but there's one thing that was driving me nuts throughout the film. When Wolverine loses his healing factor, why the heck are his knuckles still healing? Every time he pops his claws, he is tearing through his skin. They should be a painful bloody mess.
My interpretation is that his healing factor wasn't gone completely just slowed/neutered a bit. Considering the hits he took his healing factor had to somewhat still be there because he still took some pretty serious wounds. It's possible is knuckles had enough "healing memory" to do that process quickly.

I was actually pretty happy with the level of "violence" we got in this movie when it came to Wolverine fighting. It was better than what we've gotten in the other movies aside from the raid on the school in the second movie (which very much felt like "Wolverine.")
A bloodier/un-rated version would be cool, sure, but I thought seeing Wolverine let loose a bit more here was pretty cool.

I wanted to scream out to everyone to stay and watch the extra scene, but I realized that might make me look like a lunatic, so I shut my mouth!
It's just a fun extra scene. Not required viewing, but for those that want to see everything.
I ALWAYS stay through the credits the first time I see a movie in theaters, if only to listen to the music. Plus it makes me feel better that I stayed through the names of those working on the movie. Yeah, "respecting" the cast and crew probably has something to do with it.
Been a while since I've seen that movie. Sheeeeshhh. Did they really look that terrible? It looks like something someone did in Photoshop.
That's the conclusion I came to as well, after all, if his healing factor was gone completely then he would have been done in by adamantium poisoning.
You're giving the writer's of the film waaaaay too much credit.
Right, the healing factor was muted, quite a bit, but still, his healing factor wasn't gone.
Not to mention very sick from a common infection since I doubt the adamantium allows for much white-blood cells to get from his marrow to his blood stream.
Or just bled to death from multiple gunshot wounds.
I sort of have a question:
How are Wolverine's muscles attached to his bones? I mean, our bones just aren't all lose and floppy inside of a medium of squishy muscles, tendons, fat and other things. Those muscles are attached to the bones. So in order to coat the bones with adamantium wouldn't they have to get it between the muscle and the bone which would make him sort of floppy? And did the healing factor make the muscles go "fuck it" and reattach to the adamantium?
This also sort of goes back to a problem I had with Origins in that I didn't like how the portrayed the adamantium process. They pumped him with the stuff and it just somehow knew to coat his bones and form these nice, perfect, sharp claws around the bone-claws? I really think the process should have been nothing short of a vivisection with them taking out each individual bone, having to carefully coat/plate it and then put the bone back. And in PG-13 movie there's "ways" they could have done this without being too graphic, but it should have been an utterly horrific process not just "pump him with it and call it good."
