The Witcher - Netflix

Or, hear me out, execs should hire actual fans of the IP as showrunners and not somebody that genuinely hates it.

In other words, hire Cavill back? :D It's so clear and obvious the showrunners are out of their depths. I shudder to think how much Helmsworth asked for given the ballooning budget. The swordplay in the trailer looks like it came out of the Princess Diaries, a parody, rather than a serious fantasy.

^ In this case, it would be advantageous to have someone on board that understood the IP. Cavill did and was a huge fan of it and wanted to do the best he could for it as an actor, but the producers were only getting frustrated with him when he started suggesting things, thus he walked away.

In this case they did, and then fired him.
You talking about Beau Demayo right? Cuz the guy knows his stuff and that causes irritation with coworkers.
He was also fired after the excellent X-Men 97.

No, Cavill was just the actor but yeah he knows the stuff as well which is a big negative for current hollywood people.
More often than not both options tend to turn out equally bad.
Depends on who it is.
McMahan obviously was the best choice for Lower Decks, but whoever Netflix hires for their shows never really likes the IP but uses it to pad their resume.

He also wrote a couple of episodes of SNW. The Witcher started out so promising that I remember really looking forward to the second season.

Also, Cavil was pushing his opinions strongly, and that got him fired as well. It'd be interesting to find out some day what some of his specific problems with the show were.

^ From what I understand, he didn't like the direction things were going in because he wanted the show to be more faithful to the source material, and while there are different versions of the story depending on who talks about it, I think it's possible he was simply trying to be helpful, but that those in charge wanted to do their own thing. If he really liked the material, then there's a chance he was frustrated with the creative team and wanted to give more input. I don't think it's something they really considered when they had originally hired him.

I think that was exactly it. There are stories of him quoting the books on set and telling the actors about what their characters are like in the novels. Probably pissed off the creatives who wanted more Game of Thrones. The only really good thing about this series for me is that it got me to read a fantastic fantasy saga that I'd never even considered picking up before.

It also bears mentioning that those who've said he was pushing his opinions strongly were part of the production, ie showrunners, and we all know how well that went. They were painting him as being difficult. Again, different stories depending on how you talk to and it's quite clear there are two sides to the story, but I'm more likely to believe Cavill over production heads that were not invested in being truthful to the source material.

And I feel it would have been far more fruitful to have worked with him than against him when it came to being more faithful. You had someone who was knowledgeable with the material right there! But no, one thing I took out of that debacle was that the showrunners were being unnecessarily combative. And that dampened my enthusiasm on the series. Production heads don't always think of how things will look to the outside when production drama bleeds out publicly.

The news turned out to be true; it will air as a special episode alongside the new season next month. There's also a UK calendar.

I believe DeMayo was fired because of inappropriate behavior, not because of his creative choices for the show. They are going to use his scripts for Season 2, so that shows right there that they were happy with that aspect of his time on the show.
