The Whoniverse comes to iPlayer Nov 1st

Since the only thing he's been able to stop so far is the story going up on iPlayer (it's still on ITunes, Amazon Prime etc.) the BBC should go back to press on the DVD release before those rights run out. It would also stop scalpers selling copies for crazy amounts.

Probably a rights thing. The tv movie is co-owned by the American producer, so access via them.

Makes sense. Britbox has Doctor Who Seasons 1-26, then the TV Movie, K9 and Company, An Adventure in Space and Time and a few other tangential things as separate entries.

Not so. The TV Movie just has to be searched for separately, for some reason.

It wasn’t there when I was subscribed. Mind you, it was a bit of a mess when it half-shifted to ITVX and I gave up.
Was being lazy anyway… just didn’t want to get my DVD off the shelf.

I'm sure that the BBC plans to fight Coburn in court over this loss of rights issue. It's rather ridiculous. But pulling the episode pending the legal battle seems like the right move for now. An abundance of caution, if you will.

I think they likely will, and will likely win, and the end result will be a bunch of people who otherwise got the odd cheque in the post now and then — won’t anymore.

On what grounds? Coburn Jr may be a Nazi scumbag but he legitimately inherited his father's rights to the scripts.

Any Judge will ask the BBC why they acknowledged the rights for 60 years, negotiated multiple previous contracts for Video, DVD and streaming rights and just offered him 20 grand for the rights to put the episodes on iPlayer.

And in the highly, highly, unlikely event they did win that sets a precedent to remove the rights from every single writer who worked or is working in UK television and their inheritors. Would that be a good thing?

You think about people like poor old Cusick, who got work for hire pay (which was fair admittedly) for designing things like the Daleks. This hardly seems fair.

Does this only apply to the transmitted episode? The one that was remounted after the problems with the first attempt. Could the BBC air the unaired pilot in its place with a disclaimer?

It’s about who wrote the script.
Just be glad ‘Masters of Luxor’ didn’t happen.

I can't look at the guy's Twitter without feeling sick but I saw someone else quote him as saying he was arranging to leave the rights in his will to someone who hates the BBC as much as he does to ensure it will never be available.

He said back in May that if he or his family were to be harmed he'd give the rights to the Russian Federation, lol
Not my image, a twitter account I was linked to had a thread explaining what was going on with screencaps.
